Apple has updated the support page showing that devices that support spatial audio playback on Apple Music and it seems that he has changed his plans or the information he posted at the time was not correct, something we will never know.
Initially, this support page claimed that older devices like the iPhone XR and iPad Air 3 were compatible with Apple Music spatial audio, but sadly after updating this support page, it seems not to be the case.
The first version of the Apple Music spatial audio support page we could find the following devices:
The built-in speakers of a iPhone XR or later (except iPhone SE), 12,9-inch iPad Pro (third generation or later), the 11-inch iPad Pro, iPad (sixth generation or later), the iPad Air (third generation or later) or the iPad mini (fifth generation).
After updating the support page, the number of devices has been reduced staying out iPhone XR and 3rd generation iPad Air among others.
The speakers built into a iPhone XS or later (except iPhone SE), 12,9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation or later), 11-inch iPad Pro o iPad Air (4st generation).
After this update, the devices that have been out of support for spatial audio Apple Music are:
- iPhone XR
- iPad mini 5
- iPad 6
- iPad 7
- iPad 8
- 3th generation iPad Air
Initially, this same support page pointed out that iPhone 7 also supported spatial audioAlthough it was modified shortly after to include the iPhone XR or later as a barrier to entry.
For now, the Apple Music website does not show this change, but it is a matter of days before Apple updates the web with these changes.
