Set up Evernote to access your notes offline

Evernote

Many of us know how impressively useful the application of Evernote. Its Premium version gives us the option to view the notes that we have stored in our notebooks offline. However, this can be a somewhat expensive option for people who do not use it to its maximum performance.

It is unnecessary to list in this article all the virtues of Evernote, but one of the most important is the multiplatform support it offers, being able to synchronize our data on Mac, Windows, Blackberry, Android, iPhone and iPod Touch.

If with the free version you have more than enough but you do not want to stop having your notes offline, here we leave you an option that can be very useful, although it will never be a replacement for the Premium version.

Personally, I have been using Evernote for a few months to store invoices, web clippings and curious articles and even code snippets that I find interesting. I allow myself from here to recommend you - if you have not tried it yet - that you download Evernote for iPhone / iPod Touch, available for free in the AppStore.

In essence, what we are going to do is set up an IMAP email account to access our Evernote account offline, similar to how we would set up a GMail email account.

The first thing we will do is go to the application of Settings (Settings) of our device. Once there, we will select the option Mail, Contacts, Calendar (Mail, Contacts, Calendar). Pressing the option Add Account (Add Account) we will arrive at a screen where we will have to choose the type of account we want to add. We then select Another (Other). So far it would be the traditional method to add an email account on our device.

In the configuration screen of Otra we see different sections: Mail, Contacts and Calendars. Clicking on Add Email Account (Add Mail Account) will take us to a screen where we will enter the following information:

  • Name: The name we choose for our account. For example, "Evernote Account"
  • Address: You can put the address you want, even invent it. It is not an important point.
  • Password: In this field you will have to add the password of your Evernote account.
  • Description: You can leave it as it is, autocompleted by default with the address.

When we have filled in all the fields we will press the button Save, located at the top right, and it will take us to another configuration screen. Less is left.

On this screen we will have to make sure that the option IMAP is selected by default. If not, you will have to select it manually. The first three fields will be automatically filled in with the data that we have entered in the previous stage. Now, on the part of Host name we will put «Www.evernote.com«, And in the username field we will introduce our Evernote user.
The password will also be automatically filled in with the data from the previous stage.

At this time we only have to enter a couple of more data. The first thing, in the part of Outgoing Mail Server, as it cannot be empty (although it will be useless since we are not going to send any mail from this account), we will enter the GMail configuration as Host name. This is "smtp.gmail.com»And as username and password we will enter the data of our GMail account.

Pressing the save option we will have our email account ready to access our lists in Evernote offline.

We can verify it by clicking on the application E-mail (Mail) from our device and accessing the newly created account. The first time we will have to be connected so that all the notes and notebooks can be loaded. Once this is done, we can always have any of them at hand, as long as they contain text, and not just images.

For those who do not work the first time, in the last configuration screen, try clicking on Advanced Options and Incoming Mail Configuration (Incoming Settings) enable the option SSL, making sure that the IMAP path is "/" and that the server port is the 993.

I hope that this little guide has helped you and allows you from now on to get even more out of this gem, one of the best applications for the iPhone / iPod Touch that currently exists in the AppStore.

Reading the instructions I get to the point where you say «This is“ smtp.gmail.com ”and as username and password we will enter the data of our GMail account»: that is, for this step I must have a gmail account, right? ?

    Thank you

Pablo, it is not necessary to have a GMail account. I have put that example because it is the easiest one. However, you can always enter the details of your specific mail server (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.)

The only important thing is that it is valid, but it really does not matter which one you put, since we will not send any mail from this account.

    Hello,

In the part where I have to put http://www.evernote.com, it tells me that »the mail server http://www.evernote.com does not respond. Check that the account information in the Mail settings is correct. »
    What am I doing wrong?

I have forgotten the password to access evernote; (I have been using it for a long time and it really is fantastic). Upon entering, it gives me the option of remembering the password, but upon entering, it asks me for the email address, and it must be that at the time of loading the program I gave a fictitious address; But now, I can't log in to reset the password because no email address matches! I will not have lost all my notes! But, how to recover them?
