A year and a half ago, in September 2014, Hundreds of intimate photos of celebrities were leaked most important today in Hollywood, and as everything must be named, this event was baptized with the name Celebgate. At first the blame fell on iCloud, where most of these photographs were housed, but finally Apple proved that the security of its cloud storage service had nothing to do with it.
Shortly after the leak, the FBI detained Ryan Collins, a 36-year-old man from Pennsylvania. as responsible for the leakage of nude photos on 4chan. The FBI investigation revealed that for two years Collins had been hacking 50 iCloud and 72 Gmail accounts. To do this, he always posed as Google or Apple employees, depending on the account he wanted to access.
Although Collins has been charged in Los Angeles, the parties have agreed to transfer the case to Harrisburg in the district of Pennsylvania where Collins currently resides and in order to facilitate the conviction and sentencing. Collins faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison. Both parties have agreed to a sentence of 18 months in prison, but it is the judge who finally has to agree on the length of the sentence.
Apparently the intention of Collins was not to publicly post the images on the internet and assures that to this day he does not know how they could be filtered, in addition the FBI has not found any evidence to prove that Collins posted the photos online.
