Disney's streaming service will be priced lower than Netflix

A couple of months ago, the giant Disney stated that it had plans to create its own streaming video service, a service that would be integrated by the entire Marvel ecosystem, excluding the series that it has created so far in collaboration with Netflix. along with all the Stars Wars and Pixar and Disney movies.

Thus, the entire Disney catalog that is currently available on Netflix will disappear in 2019, the date on which the company plans to launch its VOD service. The disappearance of the catalog will be done progressively as Disney expands the number of countries where it offers its VOD service.

But after the announcement an important question arises, since we do not know to what extent users may be interested in paying for another streaming video service solely to enjoy your own content. The head of Disney, Bob Iger, did not announce at that time what the price of his streaming video service could be, since depending on the price at which it is available, you will have more or less success in the market.

Currently Netflix offers us the cheapest subscription for 7,99 euros / dollars, which allows us to enjoy content in normal quality and on a single device simultaneously. If we want more users of higher quality, we have to pay 10,99 euros / dollars, thus expanding the number of devices and the quality of the content. Taking into account these prices, Disney has a planned strategy. According to Bob Iger:

I can say that our pricing plan will be substantially lower than Netflix's, as our catalog is substantially lower. Of course, it will have a lot of quality content thanks to the franchises that will be available and that are all that are part of the company. By having less volume of content, the price will also be affected.

There is a potential Disney client base that we are going to try to attract with prices that match and that balance the quality of the brands and franchises that will be available, this will give us an opportunity to grow in volume and make prices reflect the volume added to as this service grows.

Shortly after the announcement of the launch of this dedicated VOD service, last August, Iger affirmed that the agreements that have previously been signed with Netflix for the creation of series will continue to be fulfilled as before and the content created so far will be available on both platforms.

Despite the success of the Marvel series on Netflix at first, the company little by little has been able to diversify the type of content it offers to its customersSo when the time comes when you can't continue creating Disney licensed content, Netflix will have a repertoire to spare to continue to be the king of streaming video around the world.
