Do the Camino de Santiago with your iPhone and Wikiloc

Taking advantage of the holidays (which are now over) I have had the fantastic experience of doing the Camino de Santiago in the company of family and friends, and as the goat always pulls into the mountains, I took the opportunity to test an application that was recommended to me: Wikiloc.

Designed for any activity carried out outdoors whether walking, cycling or even kayaking, this application has routes of all kinds that allows you to follow, or create your own, and it has been a fundamental tool for this path.

The application allows you to search for all kinds of routes based on your location or the search terms that you add. Searching for "Camino de Santiago" will bring up dozens of results with each of the stages that make up this path, be it French, Portuguese, etc. Total distance, elevation gain, estimated time and even a graph with the ups and downs that you will find along the way is the information that you will be able to view from the main screen and completely free of charge.

If you want to track the route and record your own, which you can also share later for others to do, you must make a payment within the app. For € 2,99 you will have access to all functions for 3 months, including offline maps to avoid problems with downloads if you run out of coverage in the middle of the mountain. You can even share your route live with other users who will know where you are at all times.

Of course, this app is used for many other routes besides the Camino de Santiago. Close to your town there are sure to be excellent routes that appear thanks to the huge community of users that Wikiloc has and that they share with everyone. An excellent app to spend a Sunday in nature and enjoy hitherto unknown nearby routes. If it had an app for Apple Watch it would be perfect, hopefully they will include it soon.
