Tutorial: Downgrade iPhone 3G and 3GS from iOS 4 to 3.1.3

We need:

1. iTunes 9.1 Windows - Mac
2. Original Firmware 3.1.3: iPhone 3GiPhone 3GS
3. iRecovery v 1.3 Windows - Mac
4. libUSB Windows - Mac

Tutorial:

1. We copy the iRecovery application to the desktop and install the "libUSB" library.

2. You must put the iPhone in mode DFU, iTunes will display a warning "iPhone detected in recovery mode"

3. From iTunes, we select the ALT + Restore key in iTunes on Mac or SHIFT + Restore in Windows and manually load the original Firmware 3.1.3.

4. During the restoration process, a window will appear with error 1015, do not worry because it is normal.

5. We click OK to close the error window and close iTunes.

6. Now we open iRecovey in terminal or the command console and write the following:

  • iRecovery -s
  • setenv auto-boot true
  • saveenv
  • fsboot
  • exit

7. Press the Home + Sleep buttons for a few seconds until your iPhone restarts

The iphone is already in 3.1.3 Now you can activate it, jailbreak it with known methods and release it with Ultrasn0w.

    I have a doubt.
If I have the 3GS with version 3.1.3 and new bootrom, is it okay to install iOS 4.0 to test it? then can I go back to 3.1.3 with this tutorial and jailbreak it again?

    Thank you

  2.   Luis Miguel said

If you do not want to do step number 6, to make it easier, use the recboot that does exactly the same but with 1click.

And tomy, my iPhone is one of the new ones and I did it this morning and it is perfect.

    Greetings men

I have a 3gs mb with new bootrom, I had the 3.1.3 I passed spirit to it, then I caged it and had to restore but I did not grab the firmware and I had to restore to 4 and it asked me to activate with the original sim which is me Impossible to have it because here there is not, if I apply this tutorial to download it, it will ask me again for the original sim to activate it (at & t) or I can activate it normally as I did the first time with mine (movistar) ?????? ???????

Hello! The first thing to say is that I saw a tutorial similar to this one on another website.

Just the same as you put Gnzl. The problem comes when installing iTunes 9.1.1 since in order to have ios4.0 "by webos" it was necessary to update iTunes to 9.2. The fact is that it gives you an error.
But it is perfectly possible to downgrade with 9.2, because even if the 1015 error pops up and the iPhone keeps the little cable to iTunes, it will turn on with iRecovery.

PS: I'm trying to find a way to download the baseband to be able to jailbreak 3.1.3 with snowbreeze 1.5.2 and not with spirit so that I can later update to 4.0 and have jailbreak!
    My iphone is a 3GS

  5.   Sergro said

And what if I restore ALT + restore and select the original 3.1.3 firmware? isn't it easier? or is it not possible?

I'm going to do it as they say it because I'm sick of the slowness of my 3G with the Firm iOS4, every day it gets slower and that does not activate multitasking or the background. My question is if it can't be done with the iTunes 9.2 Thanks

  8.   lysergio said

Yesterday I did the downgrade, but I used itunes 9.2 and without putting it in dfu mode, only alt + restore and then the console commands. And everything ok.
I already have 3.1.3 jb with spirit. I have a 3gs with new iboot.
    Greetings all.

I have a question, will I lose my data (phones, messages and others) if I do this ??? the ios4 for now without jailbreak sucks and I want to go back to what I had…. but I am afraid of losing my data. Thank you

    1.    gnzl said

No data is lost as long as you sync with iTunes.

Andres, you can activate it by jailbreak, yes.

  11.   andres said

You do not have to open the irecovery, you have to execute it with the terminal commands, or console as it says in the tutorial of the post.

FOR WHICH I CANNOT USE THE LIBUSB

  18.   Paco said

libusb is available for all versions of mac os x.

One way to install it is to install Macports. Here's a tutorial on how to do it: http://www.macports.org/install.php. In principle, it is to install X11, which is on the distribution disk of your mac. Next, install the package from the page, and finally open a console and type 'sudo port -v selfupdate' to update the list of packages.

Then libusb is installed by typing in the console 'sudo port install libusb'.

This works on all versions of mac.

What I did to my old 3GS boot, was the downgrade with iTunes 9.1 to 3.1.2

putting the iphone in recovery mode

It gave error 1015 that is that it does not leave the recovery mode, but it has already restored to 3.1.2, I passed blackra1n and then I updated to 4.0 with a custom firm

  20.   andres said

ok install the libysb and I did not want to recognize any usb, when I restore the iphone with any of the firmware I get error 3194, I do not get the error you say here, and I used the recboot and it does not work either.

  21.   mikelco said

Has anyone with a new iboot on a 3GS downgraded it to 3.1.3?
I did the spirit on my 3GS with 3.1.3 and everything was fine.
But inadvertently the iTunes 9.2 I update it to 4.0.

Can I follow this tutorial and download my iphone 3.1.3GS with the iboot 3 to 359.3.2?

  23.   doquixote32 said

Nothing, there is no way, I get the error 3194, also, with the usblib, the iphone does not recognize me, it makes a noise other than connecting. Could it be that I have Vista 64bits?

I also get error 3194 I have windows 7 64 and I tested it in windows vista and xp and nothing always gives me that error and when I install the libusb it damages the usb and it does not recognize anything, also there is no way to open the recovery I mean they can explain those parts but in windows how to place those commands or something because it is not the same.

  26.   Abel said

The same thing happens to me, the usb does not recognize me when I get the libusb.
    It is normal?
Any comment to clarify it and it can be solved.
At the moment I uninstall the libusb and they work again but of course if the usb does not recognize you there is no process

    Help!

  34.   Poseidon85 said

Now I explain how to make everything work well for you in windows 7, but I don't know why when with itunes 9.2 I give it to look for the firmware downloaded from aki (ios 3.1.3) it does not find it where I have it downloaded….

  35.   andres said

    poseidon account to see.

  36.   Poseidon85 said

So that nothing fails you, you must install the net framework 4.0, then when you go to install the libusb, you give it BEFORE installing properties, and compatibility with XP. Once I do this, all the recovery works for you. Now I just need to try to restore to 3.1.3, which is because when I search for the file, I can't find it! Does anyone know something??

  37.   Juanlu said

Can you downgrade to 3.1.3 even if you have installed the original ios4 and uploaded the baseband to 05.13.04 and then jailbreak?

  38.   andres said

poseidon I already have the 4.0 framework from before and I put xp compatibility to the libusb and nothing does not open the recovery and when I restore the same error 3194

  39.   Poseidon85 said

Andres, but can you help me, because when I download the firmware from aki, it is in zip, and I put it in dfu mode, I give it to look for the firmware to restore, and it does not find anything just where I have saved the file ???

  40.   emilio309 said

irecovery tells me: got usb no iphonde / ipod found and I restored with 3.1.1 and I even got the error when I finish now it is in dfu mode, it helps to run irecovery

  41.   Abel said

poseidon when you give properties for the libusb only the compatibility reaches up to win vista (service pack 2) what happens with windows 7 ???????

  42.   Poseidon85 said

Well, my last experiences, once I restore to 3.1.3 in dfu, then it gives me error 3194, I open the recovery, it gives EXIT RECOVERY MODE and when I start my iPhone it is still in version 4, I don't know what else acer

  43.   Ruben85 said

What do we do with the 3194 error?

It won't let me restore the iphone, I don't know what else to do !!

  44.   andres said

that error keeps getting, I already tried 3.1.3 with 3.1.2 and now I'm testing with a custom fw 4 to see if it catches it

  45.   emilio309 said

Gentlemen I have succeeded if it works it gave me a bit of struggle but if it works, it happens to me that the irecovery recognized it tube k install the itunes 9.1 and the solution to the usb is: before installing it to the installer, right click then to the tab of compratibility and selection windows xd sevice pack 3 will give you a blue screen, nothing happens, turn on the computer again and the usb will work

  46.   Juan said

friends do not get into trouble because if you just download the itunes 9.1 you can downgrade your iphone since when you download the itunes 9.1 put your ipod or iphone in recovery mode and at the bottom of itunes you will get the restore option click there and ready your iphone or ipod will be in version 3.1.3.

  47.   Poseidon85 said

emilio, give me a hand, if the usb works for me and everything when installing that, what happens when restoring gives me the error 3194 and yasta, even doing the recovery, the iphone continues in version 4.0 helpsaaa

  48.   emilio309 said

Now what does not come out is the jailbreaker with spirit nose k happens it gives me an error I'm going to restore to see what happens

  49.   emilio309 said

poseindon right away I'll give you a hand let me restore that the hailbreker now doesn't work for me with spirit I can't do it but then I finished I'll give you a hand with that

There is no way that this solution for Downgrade works in Windows 7. You can put the LibUSB in XP mode but the Recovery terminal does not open to write the commands there.

Friends, restore to 3.1.3 and when you get error 1015 and are in recovery mode, close iTunes and pass blackrain and have a gray screen, turn it off and on and that's it, activate with iTunes and then jailbreak with spirit! !!! This is what I did in Windows 7 since recovery or libusb did not work for me !!! After error 1015 the iPhone is restored but in recovery mode, use blackrain as it was used in the tetered jailbreak !!! Greetings to all! Long live Argentina !!!!

    Greetings to all

People… I've done it! or at least for now! Having the trick is simple, simply click before installing the libs on the right button and you go to properties, then compatibility and mark windows xp sp3, it isntalais and the usbs will not fail you ...

Now you do the manual and I with a 3gs of the new ones has passed me to 3.1.3 but the issue that will now be running and tells me that it could not be since the copy is with a newer firm ... so good I will wait for it to end and have what happens!

Bigeeeeeees! although the best explained things ... hehehe

  70.   antocobo said

x pindrejo: you say you have done it to a 3gs with new iboot ???
Have you done it in win or in mac?
How have you modified the host file?
I have tried something similar before, but I always find the 160x error, which from what I have read is something of a communication problem with usb, which I suppose will fix the modification you have made in the hosts file, could you detail me what have you modified ?? I'm sure the problem comes from there

  71.   pindrejo said

I have done it with osx snow leopard
I have modified the file as follows
1- I have copied the file to the desktop
2- I have changed the permissions to be able to modify it
3- I have added the line that puts in the tutorial
4- I have copied it back to its original location (/ etc, which is a hidden folder), it asks for a password to be able to copy it again.

Before doing this I also got an error but I don't remember what it was.

  72.   emilio309 said

In the end I had to re-install iTunes 9.2 and go back to ios4. All afternoon spent, for nothing, so I will wait for them to do the jb to ios4, in some reliable and simple way, I hope someone gets it. Anyway, thank you all for your comments.

Did someone know how to make it open? Thanks

Could someone ask me a question? When I updated my iphone 3g from 3.1.2 to 4.0 the baseband was also updated (it went from 05.11.07 to 05.13.04). If now I downgrade to 3.1.2 or 0, the baseband is updated, I don't know how to go back to before. Does that prevent doing the jailbrake once back to 3.1.3?
    thanks!
PS: don't update if you want to do JB because the apps don't work.

  90.   Fran Rhodes said

Uncle you failed to mention that iPhone 3G users (most of whom are interested in this restoration) must have saved their ECID in the cydia Server !!!! If you haven't saved the entire tutorial, it doesn't make sense and you're wasting a lot of people's time.

  91.   if2030 said

Rogelio, I've upgraded to 4.0 and then back to 3.1.3, but the basebando followed me on 05.13.04, it's easy to re-jailbreak it with Redsnow 0.94 anyway. The only issue I had was that I did not recognize the sim, I had to install ultrasn0w to free the iphone and take the sim.

Fran Rodas you are right but anyway you can go back to a previous firmware, although you have not saved the ECID.

  92.   arytzam said

that is, from everything I have read, if I have not saved the ECID in Cydia and if I do not have old bootrom ... do I have to hunch with my 3gs os 4.0?

  93.   jhon said

It worked for me and I did it with itunes 9.2 after I got the error 1015 I passed the blackra1n and rebooted and everything was fine then I passed spirit for the jailbrake and I put the ultrasnow to unlock it

  94.   Abel said

arytzam I'm the same as you and I can't get it down to 3.1.3 on 3gs with new bootroom, and I've tried everything, so I suppose we'll have to wait for them to do something for 4.0 and new bootrom.
and if there is already someone to upload a clear comment how to do it without climbing the branches has and be done with windows.

  95.   rogelio said

Let's see if I understood: with itunes 9.2 you give it restore (with the firm 3.1.3) and once it is ready, do you pass the blackrain for error 1015? And then the spirit does the jail (even if the baseband is 05.13.14?) Is that the way? My iphone is 3g free of origin! Thanks!

WHEN YOU SYNCHRONIZE THE IPHONE WITH ITUNES AND I TELL YOU THAT THERE IS A NEW UPDATE, THINK THEM TWICE BECAUSE AS YOU UPDATE YOU WILL NOT GO BACK TO A PREVIOUS ONE, I SAY IT FROM EXPERIENCE. BOYS, BE CAREFUL.

Hello, I need the donwgrade please !! i tried to update my iphone 3gs from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 and it gave error, and died; to resuscitate it I had no choice but to update to os4, but now I want to go back to 3.1.3 at least. Has anyone tried this tutorial and been served? I don't want to see my dead iphone again!

  101.   er0rr said

GNZL, I'm really sorry, I don't want you to feel insulted, and I don't want to do it either, all I want to say is that I have followed this tutorial, I have an old iPhone 3GS iboot also checked with the latest iDetector tool… .. and downloaded the 3.1.3 that has it in the tutorial ... I have done the same as iTunes 9.1 says there .. install LibUSB ... I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Because it runs much faster and okay ... .. I like it ... … .And the restoration does not even start with iTunes …… it only tells me after a few seconds of Verifying the restoration with Apple…. I get this: THE IPHONE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESTORE. THIS DEVICE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE REQUESTED VERSION. NO I HAVE OTHER ERORS AND I HAVE NEITHER GOT IT WHEN INSTALLING ITUNES 9.1 AND LIBUSB .... THE LAPTOP HAS BEEN INSTALLED AGAIN SO I DIDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER ITUNES. Also the iPhone model is MB not MC. I don't know what I'm going to do for it Let your tutorial come out well. WHAT DO YOU THINK, please ???? ?

  102.   gnzl said

Mb or MC does not matter, that only matters on iPods, what matters on the new or old iboot.
I have a 3G and I downgraded it to do the tutorial and see what worked.
I have done it in MAC and it has been good for me.
I do not know if it will be a question of 3GS or Windows.

  103.   Franklin said

it worked! Thank you very much, I downloaded it from version 4 to 3.1.2, old iphone 32 gb iboot, first I tried another way that asked to add the line to the hosts file:
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
I don't know if that had something to do with it, additionally, I ran the irecovery indication twice.
    Thank you!!

  104.   er0rr said

Well, GNZL, I'm sorry but I've already been right, I'm not a fool. You had to say brother, that you haven't tried 3GS ... but in the tutorial you have said that it is valid for 3G and 3GS …… now you say it that you have not tried in 3GS ????? Well, the tutorial is worth it, but for the 3G… .. but the 3GS NOT…. Now what do you think? ……. 🙁

I got error 1600 I closed iTunes and opened the program that did not open by the way in command console does not recognize the commands you say

iphone 3gs iboot new model mc with original ios 4.0

It seems to me that it is more complicated and with the steps you take I do not find out well but thanks anyway I will continue in 4.0 until the jail comes out

  106.   gnzl said

let's see, the tutorial works on 3G and 3GS, if it doesn't work for you, try adding the HOST file on your mac (in the path
Hd / Private / etc) in the last row of the same the following:
    74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

And if it doesn't work it's because you didn't save the SHSH file

I have decided to downgrade to 3.1.3 after several stormy weeks with iOS4. The tutorial em has come in handy. It has worked perfectly for me and without any problem.

My question is now if every time I Restore (I had to do it again to restore a different backup) should I always follow the same process? Since I had lowered it to 3.1.3, I restored it again and it turns out that the 1015 error occurred again.

Is that normal? can it be avoided in any way?

the iphone is not compatible with itunes 9.1, I upload it to 9.2. and there is the thing left.
does not let me do more. !!!!
Can someone advise me, I have a windows 7

  112.   David said

I have also downloaded the original fimware that puts me in tuto, but it is not the typical file to install ,.
I get a folder with a lot of files and a folder, and of course when you are going to restore, the file does not appear.
What do I do with that firmware, apart from looking at it… .. !!!!! Thank you.

  113.   polsfuss said

iRecovery works perfectly on 3G and 3GS, as long as you have previously saved from Cydia or with Umbrella the SHSH file of firmware 3.1.3.
If you did not save the file in its day, it is impossible to download from 4.0 to 3.1.3
On the other hand, before doing the downgrade, you have to modify the Host file on your mac (in the path Hd / Private / etc) and in the last row of it the following:
    74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
I repeat if you meet these requirements (shsh and hosts) it works perfectly, I have done it more than ten times with different iPhones.
So please, before criticizing or saying that it does not work, read again and again the comments of this forum, ask questions, or search for information in google, that is how the others have learned.
Excellent post, although perhaps a clarification about the shsh and the host file, it would make many users understand better.
    regards

  114.   designs said

Do you know of a solution if I have not saved the shsh file and what would be the path to modify the host file in windows I tried it with win 7 and when I opened irecovery the window came out and closed at the moment I guess it will not work in win 7.

  115.   polsfuss said

It works! I downgraded 3Gs with ios4 new bootrom to ios 3.1.3, they should only have their SHSH saved in cydia and add 74.208.105.171 to hosts gs.apple.com. This tutorial works perfectly well, it's just a matter of reading!

Andrew, as we always say, the backup should not be restored when the firmware version is changed, since there are many bugs.

Dear, I tell you that the procedure works, not as easy as described here, the issue is that when the madman ends he throws an error and there you are in recovery mode, here you have two options, remove it from recovery with some soft or use the redSn0w…. and throw the image again, after this you have the perfect cell phone but no signal, this is because when the 4 was installed I change the baseband firmware, which is different from the operating system (IPSW file) now ... how to go back to the baseband or firmware of 3.1.2 or 3.1.3, easy when using the snow I install the Cydia, well there we have to update everything in the cydia, then look for the Firmware 3.13 APP application and when installing it you choose the same firmware as the IPSW image and Ready, the signal returns, if you want to unlock it, you can install the blackrain repo or the repo666. If you have questions about the orders, remember the 4.0 OS does not give this cell or fart

Good people! I write because I got tired of searching on the internet how to downgrade from 4.0 and 4.0.1 to 3.1.3 on an iPhone 3GS MC model with a new Boot and even though I followed all the steps like the one in this tutorial, I kept giving the error 3194.
The thing is like this, I did the modification of the hosts file and to see if it took it I opened the DOS and I did a ping to gs.apple.com and it answered me of the ip 74.208.10.249, which before modifying the file, I The ip 17.151.36.30 answered.
When I open iTunes for the first time, before trying to restore, it occurs to me to do the same test, realizing that the ip 17.151.36.30 answered me and that is why it gives the error 3194, because it ignores the deception that we made .
When I open the hosts file, I find that out of nowhere a # appeared before the ip of saurik and below, again the 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com.
Just delete the last line and the # that appeared before the IP 74.208.10.249 and that's it. I was able to downgrade from ios 4.0.1 to 3.1.3 with iTunes 9.2.
What you have to do next is to pass the blackrain to it to get it out of iTunes mode and then with Spirit they are left with the jailbreak ready to use.
Note that this is with an activated iPhone, or be it legal. I do not know if it will work for illegal iPhones since when it finishes passing 3.1.3, and that it lifts with the blackrain, you have to let iTunes activate it
    I hope it has served!!
    Regards!

  149.   Andrew said

    How about people!
I leave you a curiosity that happened to me today!
It turns out that yesterday I was able to downgrade normally, although when I finished, the 4.0.1 happened again because I needed to back up some things.
Today I downgraded again and everything was fine. The thing is that when I was finishing, I got damaged by cydia and I had to pass the formware to it again to start again, but this time, when I wanted to pass it to it, itunes gave me the error 3194.
I passed the 4.0.1 and it has a good time, but the 4.0 throws the same error (even though I have the modified hosts file and the shsh I save for the 3 versions of the ios) so my question is if there is some kind of limit in the amount of downgrades that can be made to the iphone and if the limit is per day or because in theory, if it were per day, I should not have let the 4.0.1 pass in the last option. Although to pass that ios to him change the ip to gs.apple.com.
    Any suggestions ??
    Greetings. -

And when closing the iTunes window, it forces me to accept the request that I have to restore the iphone again in order to connect it with iTunes.
At the time of jailbreak, with Redsn0w, Cydia appears, but when you click it, it does not load, it disappears. I've been researching all day and nothing has evolved. Has someone something similar happened to him and has he been able to solve it?

    Thank you very much

Javier, it's a permission problem, I don't know how to solve it, it happened to a friend and I wasn't able to, connect your iPhone to a Windows computer (I'm sure you have access to one) and use this program:

EasyiRecovery, you don't need the usblib or anything.

Hello! Let's see if someone can help me.
I have followed the steps to downgrade with a 3G. The point is that in the end it has stayed in recovery mode and I do not get it out of there either with iRecovery or with RecBoot. At most it changes to the screen where it asks me for a sim without a locked pin to be able to activate. When I put the pin (simyo) it returns to recovery mode with the cable and itunes symbol.
Does anyone know how to get out of there? Thanks!

  155.   gnzl said

    Two options
    easyrecovery http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T0DWC02S
    .
    o Use redsn0w if you haven't already.

  156.   Tito said

Easyirecovery I only found it for Windows and I have a Mac.
The redsn0w does not accept the
    iPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw
that I have used for the downgrade.
Unless you don't use that one and have to have another one ?? !!

  157.   gnzl said

is that the redsn0w you have to do it with the fimr 3.1.2 (download it too)
When the redsnow asks you, you put that one on it.
Even if you have 3.1.3 on your iPhone on your iPhone

  158.   Tito said

Ah okay! I had only downloaded 3.1.3. Now I try it to see. Anyway, to pass the redsn0w, it must have been exited before the recovery? Because that's where this gets stuck

  159.   gnzl said

easyirecovery is only for windows, but surely someone close to you has a PC,
I had problems with the downgrade and I solved it like this (with the neighbor's computer)
If it asks for sim, it has already left the recovery simply redsn0w

  160.   Tito said

Okay! I'm waiting for 3.1.2 to finish downloading and I'll give it the redsn0w to see if it goes. If not, I will try the whole process again but directly with firmware 3.1.2 (not 3.1.3) and I will pass blackra1n to it. Anyway, the question is to get it out of there!
    Thank you

  161.   gnzl said

it will work, redsn0w with 3.1.2
    and 3.1.3 on the iphone

  162.   Tito said

With redsn0w it didn't work for me. In the end I downgraded again with 3.1.2 and passed blackra1n !!
I finally have a mobile and not a beautiful paperweight !!!!

Three or four days without a phone has seemed like an eternity! What a dependency we have !!! In addition, the public booth issue is like not having a mobile, if they don't go, you have the money. Anyway, what a joy to have the phone again!

-I do not do the steps of the irecovery terminal because I did not understand how to do it, anyway use the new easeIrecovery
-I got out of dfu mode
-I got a warning and I choose to configure my iPhone as a new iPhone, xq when trying to configure it as the previous iPhone I got a problem that had to do with the firmware version and it wouldn't let me do it….

The problem is that I can't restore it with the last backup, which I can't find anyway, it doesn't appear in the device history nor can I find it in the internal iTunes folders ... I don't see the corresponding backup to the name of the previous iphone let's say….

I only see the copies made with the current firmware of my iphone (3.1) and not the one I made that time with the ios4 ...

Well, you have two options, to restore again using this tutorial or to go up to 4.2.1, which goes (medium) well on iPhone 3G, right?

the "medium good" thing ... I notice a lot of difference, now with 3.1.3 it is going great and the 4.2.1 gives me a laziness, the Tomtom is worth it ...
Let's see what I can think of.
    Thank you, I'll tell you.

Hello good! I have a question about the downgrade
I have an iphone 3g with ios 4.2.1 and jailbreak and the battery lasts for 3 hours with the spotlight, push notifications, 3g ALL disabled and I wanted to know if going down to 3.1.3 would improve the battery performance somewhat. I just want to know that if someone could answer my question, I would appreciate it very much. (more than a lot) xD GREETINGS

It doesn't work at all, what do you tell me about error 3194?

  182.   jandonie said

Hello. I have a 3 GB iPhone 16G and it has iOS 4.2.1 installed but I want to downgrade it to version 3.1.3. Now ... the question is the following:
I read some comments on another website, which said that if you did not have the SHSH of version 4.1 saved, you could NOT downgrade to any iOS ... and the iOS of my iPhone is 4.2.1 and the Firmware says 06.15.00; and I don't have a backup of SHSH from previous versions, since I bought this iPhone used and it was already updated, jailbroken etc ...

I want to do the procedure mentioned in this section, but… I have a few doubts. It would be my first attempt to jailbreak and I don't want to spoil anything.

If someone wants to give me a hand in terms of all this, I would be totally grateful, since from what I have read ... this jailbreak an iPhone, it does not take work, but there are several things that must be done, for him In any case, I also read that after jailbreaking the device, you have to release it so that it can use SIM, because I understand that the cell phone is locked and you have to unlock it so that you can use any SIM without complications.

Anyway, other data are that: I plan to do all these processes on a computer with OS WINDOWS, that I have installed iTUNES 10 [which I will have to uninstall if I do the procedures mentioned in this page].

The point is that I urgently need to return this iPhone to version 3.1.3 because 4.2.1 is super slow [I know because a friend has the same iPhone with version 3.1.3 and it is very different from mine (I mean more Quick).

I can then ... do the steps they suggest in this section without having the version 4.1 SHSH or is there any other way to do it? If anyone knows how to help me, I will be totally grateful.

    Greetings.

Shsh is not needed for 3G

  183.   If2030 said

The iPhone 3G does not need to have saved the ssh to go back a firmware version.
To make it easier I suggest you download ireb (for Windows) this will allow you to put custom firmware and look for a firmware 3.1.3 already activated so as not to have drama with the sim, you can find very good custom firmware on the whited00r page. They are custom firmware with the appearance of 4.2.1 but with the speed of 3.1.3.
    The page is. http://www.whited00r.com
Anyway, if you can learn more about the release of the sim, because I am not very clear about it.

Thanks to the people who have given me answers about what I was asking ...
Now then I don't need to use SHSH to revert to a previous version? Even if this means I have an ISO 4.2.1?
I just have to follow the procedures stated in this space and everything goes well?

    Thanks for all greetings.

Look I use this alternative method. and it seems faster and more effective.

First I install iReb for windows in its latest version: (in google you will surely find it)
I connect the device to the pc I close iTunes (I use iTunes version 10)
and I open iReb it will let you choose your device and put it in DFU (of course following the instructions of the program)
Once it is in DFU you open iTunes, it recognizes it as a device that needs to be restored. In iTunes I press ALT (on the keyboard) + Restore (the iTunes button), this will allow me to choose the firmware, look for it in the folder where you have it, select it and the restoration process will begin. (At least it has never given me any type of error, I have tried it on an iPhone 3G and on 2 iPod Touch 1g and another 2G)

    Hello if2030.

Well then ... I followed your instructions, before following those of another forum where they told me that to downgrade version 4.2.1 you had to do the whole SHSH thing ... I followed your procedure before following the procedure in this post .. and what do you think?

Well, it didn't work, kid: S

Let's see, I did the procedures just like you told me. Without counting on nothing more than itunes 10, the iREB and of course, the question of putting it in DFU etc ...

After looking for the firmware for iOS3.1.3 from iTunes, it has not left me ... at the end of the process it keeps telling me that iTunes detects that the device is ready to do a restoration.

After this ... to see that I could not find a solution, because I believed that after error 1015 everything would work out but nothing to do ...
Well after that, I tried updating the iPhone to version 4.2.1 again. Which is the newest version of iOS. And it doesn't leave me either.

Currently when I turn on the iPhone I see a screen with the USB cable and the image of iTunes telling me to connect USB to the computer and update the new iOS but I have done it and nothing happens ...

What can I do in this case?

    Greetings.

  187.   jandonie said

Well ... it seems that at the moment I have no solution ...
Although I do not have the SHSH to downgrade, which by the way, IF THEY ARE NECESSARY, as I have read there, I will have to wait for a newer version of 4.2.1 to come out, until then, I will not be able to free my iphone ¬¬ but I still don't understand it ... I don't understand why so much complication with the software of these devices.

Now ... if anyone knows how I can do to solve it ...
because I only have the new version of iTunes, 10.2 etc ... [the newest] and the phone in recovery mode that when I give it recovery with iTunes, when I get to the part where it updates the firmware ... it crashes and I get the 1015 error.

    Anyway, I will be pending.

  188.   if2030 said

When you have the iPhone in recovery mode I suggest you pass it an umbrella and from there you take it out of recovery mode. then iTunes should take it as it should.

But from what I see I was reading, it has too big firmware. 6.15 is from the ipad and not the iphone, in other words it was changed by the ipad firmware to be able to be released. This may be giving problems in restoring your iphone, because it cannot adapt the software you are trying to put with the modem version

Another solution could be taking the online check that iTunes does before the restoration, for them you must modify the HOST file of your windows
(by default you will find it here: C: \ Windows \ System32 \ drivers \ etc)
To skip this check you must add this line to the end of the file.

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

to modify the host file I suggest you make a copy outside of this folder (for example you copy it to the desktop) and modify this file (you can edit it with the notepad)

my host file is like this so you can see it:

    # Copyright (c) Microsoft Corp. 1993-2009.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP / IP for Windows.
    #

    # Entry Should Be Kept on an individual line. The IP address SHOULD
    # Placed in the first column BE FOLLOWED by the Corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name SHOULD be separated by at Least One
    # Space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (Such as These) May be Inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #

I forgot once modified the host file that you have on the desktop, you must paste it in the folder "C: \ Windows \ System32 \ drivers \ etc", replacing the original one.
then restart the pc and try to restore again.

what you have to do is have firmware 3.1.3 on your desktop, open itunes, press shift + restore and wait.

No matter how hard I try, I cannot put the phone in DFU, apparently it is in Recovery Mode Loop and it does not let me do anything else, yesterday I tried to recover the firmware version 3.1.3 but it failed without advancing the bar a millimeter progress on the iphone, the bad thing is that it stayed like that, stuck and you can not even turn off or restart with both buttons, the device only shows the apple logo and the progress bar without filling.
    That I can do ???
