In a video game market that is increasingly evolving towards realistic graphics, the truth is that there will always be a gap for games that precisely seek an older aesthetic, being Draw rider a great exponent of this movement due to its defined characteristics.
In black and white
The first thing that will surprise us about the game is that it is only in black and white, which gives it a tremendous retro aesthetic. To this we must add that the style of the entire graphical interface evokes more past decades than the current one, so we are faced with a time Machine put into the most sophisticated mobile devices of the moment, which results in a curious combination that I at least liked a lot.
It is true that perhaps the game could be a bit more worked on the graphic part, but that feeling may also be caused by the absence of colors and because its developer is precisely looking for the absolute simplicity. I'm not that much of a fan of this radical concept, but I know that many of you are and therefore it is clear that you will love this game.
Improvable control
If there is a weak point in this game, for me that is control. Accustomed to games like Bike Race Pro in which the use of the accelerometer is encouraged, in Draw Rider we bet on the buttons on the screen, a system that has never convinced me and that I am clear that it never will, since the feedback that gives a physical button is impossible than a touch screen. Therefore, it does not seem the best solution for this game, and in my view the method that should have been implemented is to accelerate and brake by touching areas on the screen, while to manage the inclination it would be much better to use the iPhone sensors directly.
This review does not make the game bad at all, far from it. The game is funny entertaining and potentially addictive, so I recommend it to all retro lovers who are looking for a simple and minimalist game with which to spend those moments that we have from time to time. And taking into account that while I write these lines it is free, I believe that by daring to try it, nothing is lost. Let's play!
