Eve Degree, a small weather station for HomeKit

We analyze Eve Degree, a tiny device compatible with HomeKit with which you will always have the information about temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure.

Design and Specifications

The little Eve Degree is very similar to other devices of the brand, such as Eve Button or Eve Room. Its square shape with rounded corners, the anodized and beveled aluminum frame that inevitably reminds of the iPhone 5, and the glossy black front is a design that has become a hallmark of the house. It is also very light (43 grams), and IPX3 certification allows it to be placed outdoors. For example, it can be placed on a window, either resting on the base or hanging, thanks to the hole in the rear area.

On the front we find a monochrome LCD screen that is always on, showing you the information you have selected with the back button: temperature in ºC, temperature in ºF and ambient humidity. There is no type of touch control on the screen, as is the case in the Eve Room, an almost equivalent device but for indoor use.

In the back we can find the space for the button battery (CR2450) that is easily replaceable. According to the manufacturer, the battery life is one yearThanks to the fact that the connectivity used is Bluetooth 4.0, which gives us that autonomy but restricts the distance to which we can place it with respect to the Apple TV or HomePod (10 meters maximum). We also find the aforementioned function button and the small hole to hang it.

HomeKit compatibility

The manufacturer Eve decided long ago for use HomeKit as the exclusive platform for your accessories, and this Eve Degree is no exception. Adding this device to our network offers us information about the temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure on our iPhone, although the latter only from Eve's own application (link), as Casa does not support this information. In Eve's application we can also see graphs with the history of each of the parameters.

Of course we can use Siri to know at any time any of the parameters that are measured, or access them from the Home application of the iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch. But we can also establish automations, which are really interesting in the Eve applicationOnce again, Casa reveals its many limitations. So we can establish a rule that makes your irrigation device not activate when certain conditions of temperature and humidity are met.
