Everything you need to know about iOS 9

iOS-9

iOS 9 has been here for a few hours. Throughout these months, since it was announced at the WWDC in June, we have been talking about the news it includes, we have tested the betas that Apple has launched, we have shown you videos and screenshots of its menus. But to complete this coverage of the launch of the new iOS 9 we have prepared an extensive article with answers to the most frequently asked questions.

What devices are supported?

All devices that had iOS 8 installed are compatible with iOS 9. Apple has not left anyone in the gutter this time. The complete list of models that can be updated to this version are:

  • iPhone 4S, 5, 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus
  • iPod Touch 5G and 6G
  • iPad 2, 3, 4, Air, Air 2, Mini, Mini 2, Mini 3, Mini 4 and iPad Pro

What's new in Apple applications?

iOS 9 may not include too many new features as a system (which is not entirely true), but the native applications that Apple includes by default do include many new features:

  • Maps finally includes information on public transport (although currently limited to some cities).
  • Passbook no longer exists and is now called Wallet
  • Newsstand does not exist either and is now called News (only in some countries at the moment)
  • Notes has improved a lot and is no longer simply an application to write text, you can insert links, images, edit ... functions more typical of a word processor than of the Notes application that we know so far.

What new features does it include?

  • Siri has gotten better, and will even offer us suggestions without us asking. You can search for photos and videos stored on your device by date, location, etc. You can also search for music by title or artist, and you can know what you are doing at all times to set reminders for that activity.
  • Search is much smarter and now we have it on the left of the springboard, with suggestions for contacts, applications, news, etc. and also we can search even within the applications (as long as they are updated for this function)
  • On-screen multitasking has finally arrived, although only for the iPad and only for some models. Slide Over, Spñlit View and PiP are three new functions that come to the iPad and that we explain in this article more details.
  • The iPad now also has a revamped "trackpad" function on the keyboard, which allows you to scroll through text and select it much more easily.

Are there any news regarding security?

Two-Step Verification is now the default security system for iOS 9, which makes it very difficult for someone to misuse your account. If you do not know exactly how it works, we will explain it to you in this article. Also included is a new 6-digit unlock code instead of four, as before.

Is there something to go from Android to iOS easily?

Apple has an application ready called "Move to iOS" which facilitates the change from the Google platform to that of Apple. We have talked to you about it in this article.

How will this update affect my battery?

It should affect positively, in fact Apple ensures that with iOS 9 the battery life can be extended up to 1 hour more in the devices. But it is also Apple has introduced a new battery saving system which allows you to squeeze up to 3 more hours, slowing down the CPU and GPU when battery is low, avoiding background updates and completely stopping AirDrop and Continuity, for example.

What is Proactive Help?

Siri no longer needs to wait for you to ask a question to help you. You can know what your location is, the time of day and the application you are using to anticipate your requests and know what you may need at that time, offering you suggestions that you will learn throughout your use of iOS 9. So if you connect your headphones, it will suggest the music application that you usually use on the lock screen, or when you connect the car hands-free the podcast application that you use while you go to work. When you get in the car in the morning it will indicate on the lock screen how long it will take to get to work depending on the traffic conditions.

It looks cool, but less space than the limited memory of apple devices.
