Facebook forces us to use Facebook Messenger: three negative points and three favorable points

facebook messenger special

This week Facebook has surprised us with the news that it will deactivate the messages section in its official application for iOS devices. This means that we can only send private messages to other users of the platform through the Facebook Messenger app, something that will be of great annoyance for many users who do not want to have two Facebook applications on their devices.

In this special article we analyze the three negative points having to install Facebook Messenger on our iPhones, but also the three favorable points that the separation of the messages section of the social network will bring us.

Bad points

Facebook

1. Two Applications

Now Facebook forces us to install two applications instead of centralizing all the functions of the social network in one. Is this really necessary? From the social network they have been striving for years to become a benchmark in instant messaging, hence they have acquired WhatsApp. Does the separation of the message platform imply an approach to its future union with WhatsApp?

2. Home Screen

If the user uses Facebook Messenger frequently and the official application of the social network, now they will have to worry about properly rearranging the icons available on their home screen, a task that is not easy when you try to organize your most used tools in a single page. Facebook and Facebook Messenger will occupy two spaces on our iPhones instead of just one.

3. Space

Introducing an individual application will require more storage space on our iPhones. Currently the official Facebook application occupies at least 62,6MB, while that of Facebook Messenger will add at least another 35,5 MB (which will be expanded according to the messages that we accumulate).

Positive points

facebook messenger

1. Extension of Functions

Facebook Messenger will be able to offer a set of its own options that, in its integration with the original app, would not be possible. Now Facebook has more freedom to introduce new tools in Facebook Messenger.

2. Calls

Facebook Messenger allows us to make free calls with other users of the social network, at no cost if we find a Wi-Fi network or the data network of our corresponding operator.

3. Specific Notifications

Now we will have more control over the type of notifications that we will receive from each of the two Facebook applications.

What do you think of this measure taken by Facebook?

Calls can be made from the official Facebook application. You simply enter the chat, then the user's information and there you see the option to call him. So it is not necessary to download Messenger to do them ...

The new change does not seem good to me. It's like he did in his day Tuenti That invited us to have two apps. I think it is a mistake

I understand that this will also take resources away from the main FB app. It would be more bearable for the most modest mobiles.

I use facebook messenger, if I want to look at facebook, I go to itnernet or directly use apps like flipboard where you subscribe to the rss of the different websites that you like and it makes a summary and you look at it
