Facebook Messenger already has more than 11.000 bots

Bots seem to have become a fundamental requirement for any messaging platform that wants to be successful in the market. One of the first to use bots was Telegram, in fact, a few weeks ago it launched a bot contest incentivizing developers with prizes of up to $ 10.000.

Shortly after, Facebook launched the copy machine and three months ago launched the first bots on the Messenger platform. Since the date, the messaging service already has more than 11.000 bots. Facebook Messenger updated the service allowing developers the possibility of adding new functions such as interactive menus, command lists, quick responses ...

As we can read on the Facebook blog, users can rate bots, offering a star rating and adding comments for developers. Both the stars and the comments can only be seen by the developers, something that I do not quite understand because it forces many users to install them without having an opinion about this bot.

In addition, quick responses allow users to interact in a faster and more concrete way, knowing in advance what the bot can and cannot do. These types of bots are aimed at businesses that want to be in contact with their potential customers through Messenger. The floating menus in the bots, allow us to know at all times the commands that we can use to interact with the bot so that we do not have to look for them every time we want to interact with it.

Currently close to 23.000 developers have signed up for the Wit.aiengine program that offers all the necessary information to be able to create bots for the Messenger platform, so if in just three months we already have more than 11.000 bots, in a year, this number can become impressive, turning them into a headache instead of a useful help for the user, since surely there are more than one and two that perform the same functions.
