Facetime for groups still having problems after the patch

Apple's beginning of 2019 has marked it the Group FaceTime security flaw that affected all your compatible devices.

A bug allowed someone to FaceTime a person and after adding themselves to the call, listen to the other person without their permission.

The bug, once it hit the media, was blocked by disabling Group FaceTime calls directly on Apple's servers. After this first reaction, Apple promised that it would send a patch for the problem within a few days.

We have already received that patch through an update to the operating systems and group FaceTime calls are back on for everyone who has already upgraded.

However, even though the security flaw has been fixed, the update with the patch seems to have brought its own problems. Some users seem unable to add a third person to a Facetime call.

Specifically, when you are in the middle of a call and press the options button (“…”), the possibility to "Add" to another person does not work. In order to add more people to a group call, it must be done from a call with at least three people.

Apple, after responding to some users in technical support, is aware of the error and reaffirms that we must be in a call with three participants to add more people to the call.

I have been able to test it and, indeed, in FaceTime video calls with one person, it does not let me add more participants. When you press «add person», it is dark and nothing happens when you press it. However, old group calls, it works and they let you add more participants. I imagine it will be a matter of time before Apple fixes this error with a new update.
