Finally, LG will offer AirPlay 2 and HomeKit in its 2018 models

LG Air Play 2

UPGRADE: Shortly after publishing this article, the LG account has announced that it will offer support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit in some of the models released in 2018.

When in January 2019 several manufacturers announced support for AirPlay natively on their televisions, some manufacturers expanded that functionality through an update in models that had been on the market for some time, as was the case with Samsung, Vizio and Sony.

LG, which also announced support for its new 2019 range of televisions, said that it initially did not plan to offer such compatibility in previous models, something that obviously felt very bad among all users They had recently renovated their TV.

However, in April of this year, in a support document available on its website, it could be read that users of the SK and UK LCD-type models and the B8 and Z8 OLED-type LG models launched on the market in 2018 they would receive support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.

When the media reported that support document, LG removed it from its website and the company has since had remained silent. That document pointed to the month of October 2020, the month in which the update that would offer AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to the models launched on the market in 2018 would be launched.

LG has remained silent until last week when a Twitter user asked LG's official account when the update was scheduled to be released for the four models contemplated in the support document that LG withdrew from its website a few months earlier.

LG's response has been clear: There are no plans to update the models released before 2018 offering support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. LG has never informed about the reason for not updating the models released before 2019 to the market. If the reason is that the sales of the 2019 models could be affected, it is an unfortunate decision on the part of the company.
