Google Maps can already tell you how congested the traffic will be on the route you are going to take, but… what happens when you arrive at the destination? It seems that the application is about to give, at least, a decent idea about where there may be a parking space thanks to a new feature that has been seen in the latest beta version 9.44. The availability of spaces in a selected destination is shown in different degrees: "easy", "medium" or "limited", with the last situation as the one with the least parking detected and highlighted in red. Once the navigation begins, more details are given through instructions indicating that parking around the direction of arrival is not "easy, in general" or "limited", for example.
Waze and INRIX have already been promoting a similar service since last September, so Google may be trying to ensure that it at least keeps its GPS navigation application up to date in terms of competitiveness with the rest of the options. The Waze application, in reality, can find us a free parking space, however, as the information that is appearing progresses, the Google Maps application would only offer an overview of the situation. It is not yet clear how Google will collect this data about which are the free places.
After several test downloads that have been made on the application, the parking availability did not work anywhere in the
tried in Paris. Since Ars Technica nothing is said to appear in the New York / Long Island area either. Nevertheless, Android Police ensures that this information does appear in Maryland locations. So far, the venues seem to be limited to shopping malls, airports, and other public places, which isn't surprising considering the feature is still in beta.
