Google Search for iOS adds 'OK Google' function

Google Search for iOS has received a major update that brings a number of new features including the ability to activate hands-free voice search. Users of iPhone 4s or later can now simply say "OK Google" to start a voice search, much like what users have been able to do with Google on Android devices for a long time.

Version 3.1.0. It includes now notifications of events, flights and public transport. Now Google will inform you of flight delays, the time you have left to catch the last train and it will remind us of the next appointments on our agenda. We can also set reminders within the application.

We can inform Google so that remind us at the right time or place that we buy coffee beans at Starbucks, tickets to a certain theater function, organize a dinner….

Likewise, we can configure Google Search so that every time a movie or series is broadcast on television, it informs us, as well as if our actor, singer or famous person launches new content. New cards have been added for movie tickets, boarding passes, car rental reservations, public transport ...

In Google they have taken advantage of the update to redesign the start, add new gestures to zoom and VoiceOver accessibility has been improved. We can access the other Google applications with a single touch.

What's New in Version 3.1.0.

Now Google Now is even better:

  • Notifications: Get notified when it's time to leave.
  • Reminders: don't forget to throw out the trash. (Only in the English version)
  • Hands-free: Say “OK Google” to start searching. (Only in the English version)
  • New cards: check tickets, boarding passes and much more.

Notifications offer you information before opening the application:

  • Time to go out for an upcoming appointment or event.
  • If your flight has been delayed.
  • How to catch the last train home.

Ask Google to remind you of tasks at the right time and place. (Only in the English version)

  • "Remind me to buy coffee at Starbucks"
  • "Remind me to take a look at the fair this weekend"

The new cards organize the information that interests you most:

  • Movie tickets, concerts and events.
  • Flight boarding passes.
  • Rental car reservation confirmations.
  • Warnings about when the last train leaves for home.
  • Lists of upcoming local events.

You can also ask me to tell you when: (English version only)

  • Favorite musicians release a new album.
  • Next broadcast of favorite movie or series on television.
  • Our favorite actors are going to release a new movie.

Just search and hit the "remind me" button.

A whole new way to search:

  • A simplified and redesigned home page.
  • Use of gestures to enlarge or discard images.
  • One-touch login if you use other Google apps.
  • Improved voice accessibility

Unfortunately most new features are not available in the Spanish version, only in the English version. Hopefully over time they will adapt it to Spanish to be able to enjoy this personal assistant of Google.
