The Montain View company launches its alternative to Apple TV, an extremely promising product with a spectacular design. Let's take a look at this latest announcement from Google, the TV Streamer (4K) with which it intends to replace the well-known Chromecast with some very interesting features.
This new product seeks to be a complete multimedia center, like the Apple TV or the Amazon Fire TV Cube. With this we find a device with a unique and innovative design, which only inherits the control of what would be its previous versions.
It will be capable of offering 4K content, compatible with the most common HDR protocols such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Likewise, sound is an important part of the way we enjoy home theater, which is why it is compatible with Dolby Digital+ and Dolby Atmos, among other alternatives.
At the connectivity level it falls a little behind, It offers us dual-band WiFi AC and Bluetooth 5.1, so it is not updated "to the latest." In this it is one step behind the current Apple TV 4K, which uses a newer WiFi 6 network port.
However, This Google Streamer (4K) comes with an Ethernet port in all its versions, but not in the Apple TV, which costs €20 more for the addition. The device's RAM memory is 4GB, while the storage only remains at 32GB total, with the Apple TV starting at 64GB.
Obviously it will run a clean version of Android TV and will work through Google Assistant if we wish. However, what I believe is the most differential point, is the fact that it has a USB-C port so we can connect any type of storage, at the same time that it has standard Matter and border router Threads, something exclusive to the more expensive versions of the Apple TV.
The price will be only 119 euros, a very low cost at which it can be purchased from September 24, while the cheapest Apple TV currently starts at €169.
