The GPS navigator for iPhone is already a reality

Yet another reason to move to the dark side of the block, jailbreaking the iPhone.

Through Cydia, without even adding a repository, it is now available for download xGPS.

Xwaves xGPS supports the GPS of our iPhone 3G and other external models for iPhone 2G or iPod Touch

The application comes with voices to indicate the directions to take like any other browser; The software is multilanguage and you can choose between English, French, German, Italian, Hebrew, Traditional Chinese, Polish and Russian but there is no Spanish, at least for now.

The maps are from Google Maps and are downloadable by user-definable rectangular areas to be able to navigate in offline mode without having to use the operator's · G or Edge data plan.

iphonegps

the software integrates quite well with the phonebook, maps and other accessories of the device allowing you to establish routes to handwritten addresses or selecting a contact who has an address in their profile. However, it is still quite wrong and it is very easy that it does not show a warning that the route could not be found but if we define the origin by hand it is solved well.

Xwaves xGPS is free, at least it does not "ask for bread" at the moment but it is not open and is copyrighted.

The other day I installed it and well it's fine, it shows you an arrow with the direction you are going, since the iPhone does not have a compass like the other GPS ... I will try with an external GPS that I have to see if it works well, although I don't know if a plug-in is needed, does anyone know if the external gps can be Bluetooth?

Let's see if the Tomtoms already release the supposed soft for the iPhone ...
with the downloadable poi !! (radars, points of interest, areas of interest such as the closest burger king !!!)
    real time traffic info !!
go to the places where we have taken a photo, just selecting one of the photos! (So if one day we go with some friends to a place that we like and then we do not know how to get there, we just have to take a photo and as in the photos the coordinates are saved !! it leaves you in the same place where we took the photo! ^^

What version is the one that already has audio 1.1.0-1?

  5.   voquemon said

Let's see ... do not confuse people, the version that they comment here has not yet come out, it is 1.2. As indicated, it will be released next week. the current one still has many bugs.

They sell one themselves gps360 or something like that and it works with the program. You just have to install the xGPS Utils from its own repository, which are like the drivers so to speak.

Anyway, the current version works BAD. The 1.2 is about to come out and I hope it is really usable, it works well offline and the offline routes and they adapt it to Spanish (right now you have to search in English).

I have version 1.1.0 and as you say it gives errors when entering the addresses but this looks good, I am going to Italy and I would like to have the browser to be able to move around without problems. lol, so the update fixes the bugs and they surprise us with the language in Spanish. Inside the bad we will have for the moment the maps updated with google maps and a FREE greeting

You can now download the Spanish language and put it in the applications / xgps.app folder
    Download it from http://xgpsdev.xwaves.net/forum/download/file.php?id=1

How much do the maps of Spain weigh?

  14.   OSCAR said

Keep in mind that those of you who have 2g, you will not be able to navigate like a GPS, you can see the offline maps and maybe do a route and such, but ... not navigate because you do not have GPS.
Of course, if you buy the GPS that is discussed in the comments, which is external, with that if you can navigate with the 2g.

Well, the maps I don't know very well how it works yet. I did a test and I did not like it too much since you have to take rectangles and depending on the zoom level that we have chosen, it gets there. That is, if you take Madrid Capital for example, or you take it very few streets or the zoom level does not reach. I imagine that you can go down it by parts or by neighborhoods and then when you ask for an address, go looking through the maps that we have on the Iphone. I still think it is anyone's guess. At least until they release the stable version. But the truth is that it promises.

There is a java application that allows zooming, but a good map of Spain will take up a lot ... Besides, what has been said STILL IS NOT OPERATIONAL at least in Spain. Hopefully the new version works well offline.

For those of you who have a jailbroken iPhone 2G or iPod Touch 1G, you must first add the following source to Cydia:

    http://apt.modmyi.com/

Once added, we refresh Cydia and the two applications will appear:
    - xGPS
    - xGPS Useful

Once this is done we would need the hardware part, for this we have several possibilities IGPSD, IGPSD360 and xGPS Module, I personally opted for the IGPSD. We can buy just the cable or the complete kit (they are legit in purchase and shipping). Your web address is:

    http://store.igpsd.com/

I bought the cable and on the other hand the antenna. Well, now that we have everything we need, we only need one little thing and that is the license to use the cable, because if not, Chinese nanai. This license costs € 2,5 and we can request it here:

    http://store.xwaves.net/

When we have the xGPS application installed, we connect our antenna through the cable to the iPhone port and start the application, we go to the tools menu, within this we go to GPS and enter GPS to use, once inside we indicate that we are going to use the iGPSD model and it will ask us for the license number that we have bought and that's it, it will locate the position.
The route instructions still give problems, but in a matter of days they will release the fully functional version with voice guidance (all this according to its developers).
I hope it helps those of you who are interested, the location is going very well. You can download the maps and thus use it in offline mode so as not to always pull the data connection or simply through the latter as you go through a site, the maps of the areas will be downloaded.

P.S. Those of you who have an iPhone 3G, you can use the XGPS anyway because it brings the option to use the internal GPS, although I don't know how it will work anymore because my iPhone is 2G.

    Enjoy it !!!

Despite reading the whole post I still have the doubt of what are the limitations that the XGPS has when using it on the Iphone 2g OS 3.0.
Can you correctly point the North to me?
Does it triangulate and give me a relative position?
Let's say, in clear words, what can the xGPS Software do for me? With all the add-ons that are useful, on the Iphone 2g 8gb SO 3.0 without any extra Hardware, simply working by triangulation of nodes.
Many thanks to whoever answers this question.
