Greater autonomy, new spheres, temperature sensor and more news for the Apple Watch

watchOS 9 will be one of the main protagonists at WWDC 2022 next June, and Apple seems to have some surprises in store for us, as in Low Consumption mode, new spheres, new sensors and satellite connection for the Apple Watch.

Apple will add a Low Power Mode to watchOS 9 that will allow some apps to run with very low battery consumption. It has been Mark Gurman who has told us this exclusive in Bloomberg. The Apple Watch already has a "Reserve" mode in which all we can do is check the time. This mode is activated when the battery of our Apple Watch is low. Apple wants this Reserve mode to expand and allow more features, even that some applications can run during it, thus managing to extend the autonomy of the watch.

According to Gurman the spheres will enjoy a renewed look. After years since its launch, the new spheres have been arriving with a dropper. It is true that last year with the arrival of the Series 7 and a larger screen size, some spheres were updated to take advantage of that extra space, but many of us think that the time has come to give our Apple Watch a new look. A watch face store is what many of us want, something that seems unlikely that Apple will offer us at the moment, so new faces are always welcome.

When it comes to health monitoring features, the Apple Watch could include a temperature sensor that could be used, for example, to better understand the moment of greatest fertility for women. According to the information, it seems unlikely that Apple will offer you an exact temperature measurement, and would only give you information on the increase or decrease in temperature compared to the usual measurement. We will have to continue waiting for blood pressure or blood glucose monitoring. Where there will be improvements will be in the detection of Atrial Fibrillation, a function that has been with us for years and that will now also inform us about how long throughout the day the person wearing the watch has been in a situation of fibrillation.

Finally Gurman tells us that the Apple Watch could include satellite connection for sending emergency and location messages, something very useful in case of any accident in a place where there is no mobile coverage. Some of all these features will require a new Apple Watch, while others will come to current owners thanks to a software update.
