Gurman confirms it: the iPhone 14 Pro will have Always On Display

Gurman has just reported it in his weekly news bulletin: iOS 16 will include support for Always On Display, just in time for the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro.

We have been talking for a long time about the possibility of iPhones including the “Always On Display” function, a technology that already includes the Apple Watch since Series 5 and that allows the screen to be always on even when the device is locked. The lighting is at a minimum, the refresh rate is reduced and thus we achieve an almost negligible battery consumption, getting in return to be able to see relevant information on our screen without having to turn it on. In the end, the fact of not having to turn on the iPhone or even unlock it can lead to a reduction in battery consumption, contrary to what many might think with this new functionality.

According to Gurman, this functionality will come with iOS 16, but it will not be compatible with all devices. Only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be able to enjoy it, despite the fact that the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Mac yac include a screen technology that would allow it. In fact Apple planned to release this novelty last year, but for unknown reasons they would have delayed it until this year's model. We will have to wait to see the next WWDC 2022 to have more clues about this new functionality, or even who knows if we will be surprised that older models are compatible.

This new Always On Display technology should be accompanied by changes to the lock screen, such as the ability to add widgets to it. Because having the screen on to see a huge clock doesn't make much sense either. The ideal would be to be able to customize the information that we want to always be able to see on the lock screen, something that will surely come with iOS 16.

And this is given as a great innovation? This is older than me at Samsung. What it seems in the end is that the enlightened Apple likes it or not, they are doing the same thing as in Android with years of difference. It's pathetic. And that I have a 13 pro max!
These guys are cavemen. A total fiasco.
