Hacker releases source code to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1

Jailbreak iOS 8.4.1

Luca Todesco, a student and "potential developer" based in Italy, has released the source code to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1, the latest version of iOS 8 and that many users have installed on their devices. The release of this code will lead to managing the jailbreak on all iPads and iPhones running iOS 8.4.1, something that many users are looking forward to.

Todesco, which discovered two vulnerabilities in one day with OS X Yosemite in August, uploaded the code on GitHub with the codename "Yalu". The accompanying description says, "source code is incomplete for iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak."

The incomplete refers to the fact that jailbreak source code is limited to booting with tethered only. The reason given for this is that the untethered code does not belong to Tedesco, therefore it cannot make it available to everyone, at the moment.

The source code only gives you the ability to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 (if you know what you are doing), which in turn provides OpenSSH access. However, please note that because this jailbreak is incomplete, don't install Cydia, and it is recommended not to install manually.

The code is not of much use to the average iOS user for now, but for users with advanced knowledge on the subject. It's only a matter of time before someone puts it to good use and the jailbreak is fully released. Even Todesco himself has joked on Twitter that "yalu for iPhone 6 will be up and running very soon."

In the meantime, it is advised that you stay away from source code if you are not entirely sure how to use it. You could end up doing great damage to your iOS device by trying to jailbreak yourself..

If you still don't want to upgrade to iOS 9 because you're hoping to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1, then your patience could pay off soon. But remember that you should not update in the meantime, because there is no way to go back to iOS 8.1.4, once you have installed iOS 9 on your device.
