How Apple Could (Should) Improve Its Keyboard In iOS 8

Keyboard-iOS-7

iOS 7 released a new look for its keyboard. An aspect more adapted to the modernity of the new interface of iOS 7 that has been the cause of complaints by many and praise by others. But on what it seems that there is unanimity is for the bad solution that Apple has found for indicate when the Shift key is on. Geoff Teehan, in Medium, has found a possible solution that seems more than adequate to solve this failure, and offers it to us in animated images that you can see below.

iOS7 keyboard fixed

If you have never used this new iOS 7.1 keyboard, let's see if you are capable of guess when the shift key is on and when not. Although it keeps a certain logic, visually it is not achieved at all. The "special" keys (uppercase, backspace, numbers, keyboard, and return) are shaded, which makes sense. The problem comes when the shift key is pressed. It now has a soft background and the arrow in black, differentiating it from its inactive state, but then being the same as the normal keyboard keys. The result is that sometimes the user does not know if it is activated or not. As I say, it keeps its harmony in terms of keyboard design, but it is not very functional.

What solution does the author suggest? Pressing the shift key causes it to appear "sunken" on the keyboard, a slight change that is not visually noticeable but has the consequence of changing the letters on the keyboard from lowercase to uppercase. Yes, if you have never noticed before, iOS keyboard is always uppercase, like the keyboard of any computer. It is something so obvious that many people have never noticed it, but it may be the perfect solution to make the iOS keyboard better designed from a functional point of view. There will be no more trouble knowing if you are going to write in upper or lower case.

What do you think of the suggested keyboard? Do you like the current one more? Will Apple accept this suggestion in its next operating system that it will present at WWDC 2014? Will there be a new version of iOS 7 before the release of iOS 8? Leave us your opinions on the comments.

That solution is honestly horrible, an aberration.

ha ha ha .. well it's true, now that you mention it I just realized that they are always in capital letters! The solution seems very good to me.

Very good solution and very simple. I think it already exists in Cydia

It needs the number line, it is the only thing because I have Cydia installed

Those of Apple should stop monsergas and integrate Swiftkey in iOS 8, which the developers of said keyboard have already requested.

I think the iOS keyboard is great with capital letters. Differentiating it from any other keyboard.

I use a cydia app called SHOWCASE.

It is nothing new. The tweak to display lowercase on the keyboard has been around for years.

What if they entered the "undo" key? If I make a mistake when writing a word or if the proofreader writes it but it is not the one I wanted, the solution is to shake the phone so that the question "undo writing?" It is little less than third world.

And please add the DEL key. (Delete the following character) and the arrows ⬅️➡️ Forward and backward. It would save a lot of time instead of having to search with your finger for what you want to erase. I don't understand how they don't.

ios 7 is a real garbage
Apple, let us return to the ios that we want! I challenge you to do it, and we'll see if people choose to stay on ios 7

For my part, I would adapt more to the option that when the key is activated it is shaded in blue or green as the Shift key does on Mac PCs. As an Apple user, I would not adapt or like that abrupt change in for letters when pressing the shift key.

Term accepted in the dictionary of the Royal Academy of the Language, equivalent to «harmony» 😉

I feel that it is fine, but that takes away the style of iOS7, since the use of capital letters was the priority and what I noticed the most in the new system, but I still opt for the difference of the button in BLUE, how it appeared in the others predecessor systems of today.
