How to accept Apple Pay in your business

Apple Pay, the payment system contactless Apple has come to stay. It is now available in the main banks in Spain, assuming a very comfortable way to pay.

Getting used to Apple Pay, in fact, is much more comfortable for users than for businesses, partly due to the lack of knowledge that exists.  Today I want to shed some light on Apple Pay from a merchant point of view.

Check the POS

The first thing to do is check that the POS (dataphones) of your business are compatible with contactless payments. In Spain, the POS terminals are usually all contactless and come activated by default to accept it.

Otherwise, Talk to your bank or directly with the support number that appears on the POS to update to one that supports it or to have it activated. Even so, the normal thing is that the POS that we have is compatible. In this case, you already accept Apple Pay at your business.

If, for whatever reason, you still have to pay a percentage for each card payment, I recommend switching to a flat rate. In this way, You will have no limitations in the use of Apple Pay and you will offer your customers the opportunity to always pay, anything without carrying cash or wallet.

Charge a purchase with Apple Pay

With Apple Pay we don't have to do anythingAt most, print the copy of the receipt, although many customers - upon receiving the notification on the iPhone - will tell you that it is not necessary. Still, as you will see later, we should always give you the copy.

Apple Pay does not need the customer to enter the PIN (not even for payments of more than € 20), don't even sign the receipt. Nor should we check the DNI (in fact, the name does not appear on Apple Pay cards), nor should we ask to see the physical card or any other document. We must make it clear, as a business, that we want payments to be comfortable and secure, since that is what they demand of us, and with Apple Pay, they are.

Return a purchase with Apple Pay

This aspect may be the most unknown point for many. There is no card number, not even a card, but a transaction made with Apple Pay can be returned.

From the POS, we will select the return menu. It will ask us for the amount and the original operation number. It is the number established by the POS itself and, for this, we will need the receipt or a copy. If we know when the payment was made and the amount, it is possible to reprint the receipt, but this step depends on the menu of each POS.

Done this, it will ask us to pass the card and here, simply, we will bring the iPhone as if we were going to pay. The return would already be made.

Advertise that you accept Apple Pay

Apple provides the tools and materials necessary for us to announce that our business is compatible with Apple Pay. It is not necessary to accept it or not, but it is always good to keep our business information up to date and, surely, in many cases, customers will appreciate that they can approach our premises without fear of not having cash on them.

You can ask Apple to send you different Apple Pay stickers completely free here. We must fill in the form and accept that we will place the stickers as Apple likes. There are stickers for POS, cash registers and shop windows.

In addition, we can make the Apple Pay logo appear on our business's Apple Maps page. You can set this and configure all the information related to your business from here.

Finally, teach how to use Apple Pay

In many shops, payment with contactless cards or with the mobile phone is hampered not by technology, but by the lack of knowledge of the staff. Like any technological novelty, everything goes through the phase of novelty and ignorance before being something familiar and routine, it is up to the businesses to be up to date, instruct their employees and not make inconveniences when accepting payments in all the ways that it can.
