How to activate Activation Lock on Apple Watch

apple-watch-review-01

Activation Lock has been a great advance when it comes to the security of our mobile devices. This system means that in the event that you lose your iPhone or iPad, or someone steals it, they will not be able to reset it easily because they would need your iCloud username and password to do so. It has even helped to reduce the theft of these types of devices since it is not easy to sell these devices afterwards once people know about this security system. Incomprehensibly Apple didn't add this option to the Apple Watch at launch, but since watchOS 2.0 is available we can activate it and thus be able to use the activation lock on our watch. We explain how to do it.

Only on iOS 9 and watchOS 2

To be able to activate the activation lock it is necessary to update our Apple Watch to watchOS 2.0, which is very easy to do through the "Watch" application for iOS. But it is also an essential requirement that you have iOS 9 installed on your iPhone, because otherwise you will not be able to update to watchOS 2 on your Apple Watch. The steps to follow are therefore to update your iPhone to iOS 9 and then update your Apple Watch to watchOS 2.

Associate your iCloud account with Apple Watch

This step is done during the initial configuration of the watch when linking it to your iPhone, but in case you did not do it it never hurts to check it. Open the "Watch" application on your iPhone and under "General> Apple ID" see if your account is associated. If the "Login" option appears (as in the image), it is not yet associated. Click on that option and enter your iCloud password. When only your account appears on the screen, with no more buttons, then your account is associated.

Activate Search my iPhone

The activation lock of the Apple Watch is associated with that of the iPhone. Either you have it active in both or neither. Therefore it is necessary that you verify that you have it activated. Go to the Settings menu> iCloud> Find my iPhone and check that the option "Yes" is activated. Otherwise, activate it. The notice will then appear that it will also be activated on your Apple Watch.
