How to prevent turn-by-turn notifications from Maps on Apple Watch

C

The Maps application on the Apple Watch offers us, as we all already know, the option to guide us "step by step" while we want to go to our destination. This guidance possibility received an improvement in the settings for the Apple Watch in watchOS 5 which you will especially appreciate if you are a CarPlay user.

And now we have three options available in the Maps app of the Apple Watch while in previous versions we only had one. In previous versions we could only activate or deactivate alerts and now we have the option to deactivate guidance in the car, in the car with CarPlay or even when we go on foot.

WatchOS notifications

The image that we see above these lines is directly the option that we had available when entering the Maps settings in the Watch app. As you can see, you could only enable or disable step-by-step guidance. Now in the new version of watchOS we can choose between three options to stop this guide so it becomes a much more flexible option and significantly improves the user experience.

Turn on or off turn-by-turn guidance for Apple Watch from Maps

When we get into the car, whether or not we have CarPlay, it can be annoying that notifications reach us by turning "step by step" on the wrist so what we can do is deactivate it so that they only reach our iPhone. This can also be done directly when we go on foot or when we use CarPlay if our car has it. For this we simply access the Settings of the Watch application on the iPhone and we enter Maps:

Disable notifications

By activating or deactivating each of these three options we will get the clock to warn us in the turns or not. In the case of the image above when we access the car and it connects to CarPlay, the clock will not indicate the direction on the clock. Yes, it will warn us as long as we do not activate CarPlay and while we are walking. In this section you can adjust the notifications to your liking and in this way do not saturate yourself with notices on the wrist.
