It is possible that with the passage of time the Apple smart watch may become a bit derailed, it is even possible that it measures some data in the wrong way due to this. Apple watch draws on the GPS signal for some measurements And this can sometimes affect the accuracy of distance, pace and calorie measurement.
In this case it is not complicated to do but we do need to be outside of buildings to carry out this process. On the other hand, it is important to say that the calibration of the Apple Watch also can help us to really know our fitness level and stride, which will improve the accuracy of the clock when GPS is not available or is limited by training inside a building or similar.
How to calibrate the Apple Watch
First of all I have to say that the difference that we are going to obtain when performing this calibration is "little" in terms of the data obtained by the watch, but surely many of you have never performed this calibration and it will be good for you to do so. To start we have to access a clear place, in the open air and totally flat, in this way the GPS signal will be strong and we can start the calibration.
For those who have an Apple Watch Series 2 or later, you only need your Apple Watch, but if you are one of those who have an Apple Watch Series 1 or earlier, bring your iPhone in order to have the GPS function active. With these models we will have to perform the calibration with the iPhone in hand, on a bracelet, backpack or belt. Calibration is done with these two steps:
- We open the Train app. We click on Walk or Run. We can set a goal or not, as we want
- We will walk or run at a normal pace for about 20 minutes
- The calibration will be carried out automatically at the end of these 20 minutes of training
We can all take 20 minutes for our body but in the case that we do not have time what we can do is complete these 20 minutes with several outdoor training sessions. If you train at different speeds, you should also calibrate it for 20 minutes for each speed you walk or run at.
Every time you walk or run outside following the steps above, Apple Watch will continue to calibrate the accelerometer by remembering your stride length at different speeds. Calibration also achieves more accurate calorie estimates in the Train app, as well as the estimates of calories, distance, movement and exercise in the Activity app.
