How to check what firmware Apple is signing

what-firmware-signs-apple

Many people tend to leave things until the last moment (I am one of them). Sometimes I am lucky and sometimes I am not. One of the most lazy cases is to restore any of my iDevices from scratch, since the process is quite slow, between the latest version of iOS is downloaded, iTunes restores the iDevice and later we have to copy all the applications that we had installed. Between whistles and flutes a couple of hours go away with nonsense.

Apple never warns when it stops signing firmware that we install on our devices once a new version has been released, so we are always at the expense of trying to see if we are lucky. For all those users who always want to try the latest version of iOS, but do not dare to lose the Jailbreak without knowing if they will be able to return to a previous version, there is a website that informs us of all versions of iOS that Apple is signing right now.

In this way we can check, in a few seconds, if we still want to go back to a previous version of iOS to keep the jailbreak, for a more immediate example. To do this, we just have to select the device whose availability we want to check, or we can visit the web http // ipsw.me / 8.1 to see all the devices compatible with the latest version.

Today the latest version of iOS is 8.1.1 which does not support Jailbreak, but despite having spent a week since the launch of this latest version, thanks to this website, we can still verify that we can return to the previous version, downgrade iOS 8.1 to enjoy the Jailbreak. The IPSW.me website is updated every few minutes so the information it shows is almost in real time. If we are IFTTT users, we can create a recipe for when a change is made in the signatures of the different versions of iOS to be informed almost up to the minute.

Just the other day I had this doubt. I bought an iPhone 6 that came with iOS 8.0 and I wanted to know if I could still upload to iOS 8.1 before doing the jailbreak (I did not know if Apple still signed it) and I could not find relevant information except for the posts in the American forums where the People said that at least until a few hours ago it worked, so I took a risk and with success, but it does not hurt to have this information at hand for the future.

    Thank you Ignacio 😉

Creating alerts thanks to IFTTT from that same website is super useful, although as soon as they notify us we will tell you 😉

The same thing happened with my iPhone 5, I downloaded several ipsw until I found what it was, although in theory it was not the exact model.
Have you checked that you have downloaded the ipsw of your model?

Yes, the 4 that exist for the same model and from different pages, in case they were firmware problems and nothing, I keep getting the error

Well, Apple continues to sign iOS 8.1. Have you checked that the model of your iPad corresponds to the firmware you are downloading? There are several models.

      Greetings.
