How to set up iMessages on iPhone and Mac to use your phone number as the sender

Since yesterday we already have available MountainLion 10.8.2 for our Macs. This new version, apart from integrating the social network Facebook, also allows us to add our phone number as sender in iMessages app. This way, when contacts receive a message from us, they can see the phone number instead of the annoying Apple ID or associated email.

When we install the update and restart the computer, when we open iMessages the program automatically asks us to assign our phone number to it. If you're having trouble setting it up correctly, you'll need to grab your iPhone and disable the iMessages option. Once this is done, reactivate it using your phone number or Apple ID.

Then reopen iMessages on the Mac and you will get the configuration message or you can add your phone manually from the Preferences menu. So you will have your Mac with Mountain Lion ready to send imessages using your phone number.

I follow the steps and I don't get anything on the Mac that tells me that iMessages is configured with my phone number. In preferences nothing comes out anywhere.

I also don't get anything from adding my number in the iMessages, not even in the application properties.
