How to downgrade from iOS 9.1 Beta to iOS 9.0

iOS-9

Yesterday Apple released iOS 9 in its final version, for all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users. Updating to this new version is as simple as accessing the device settings and using the update via OTA, or connecting to iTunes and clicking update. But if you are one of those who is on iOS 9.1 Beta, a version that Apple launched for the Public Betas program to which many of you are enrolled, the thing is not so simple and there are many of you who have asked us on Twitter and on the blog how to downgrade to iOS 9.0. We explain step by step how to do it.

Download iOS 9.0 for your device

I recommend using a file already downloaded to your computer. It will streamline the process and you will also have it available for other occasions if necessary. You have all the iOS 9.0 download links available for all devices en this article. Choose yours and wait patiently for them to download to your computer. While it is downloading you can continue with the following steps.

Backup your device

In iCloud or in iTunes, but only in case there were any errors during the procedure, because you really won't be able to use iOS 9.1 backup on iOS 9.0. This little "detail" that many forget to mention can be very important to you, so keep it in mind before continuing.

Make sure your photos and videos are downloaded

Remember that your device will be clean and unable to restore backup, so all your videos and photos stored in it will disappear. Make sure you have downloaded them to your computer before continuing with the restoration process.

Connect your iPhone to the computer and open iTunes

The restoration process really begins: connect your iPhone or iPad to the computer using an original lightning cable (recommended) or at least certified and wait for iTunes to detect it. Once your iPhone or iPad appears, go to the Summary screen.

Restore-iTunes

In many tutorials indicate that it is necessary to put the iPhone or iPad in Recovery mode. It really is not necessary, And I also checked it in person with my iPhone 6 Plus, but if the procedure fails or you don't want to risk it, you can do it before pressing the restore button. Putting your device in Recovery mode is very simple:

  • Turn off your device
  • Connect it to your computer while holding down the start button (the round one) and do not release it.
  • When the image of the cable and the iTunes icon appear on the screen of your device, release the home button. The message that an iPhone / iPad has been detected in recovery mode should appear in iTunes. If not, repeat the process again.

If you are in recovery mode or if you have decided to skip this step now is the time to restore. Click on the button «Restore» but holding down the «Alt» key (in OS X) or «Shift (in Windows). A window will open in which you will be asked to select the firmware file to install. Then select the file that you downloaded in the first step of this tutorial, and wait for the process to finish.

Set up your device as new

You are already in iOS 9 but as we indicated before you will not be able to use the backup. Not even WhatsApp allowed me to download the conversations I had saved from iCloud. It is time to configure your device from scratch.

There is another way that is what I did and you do not delete anything. First you remove the profile from public betas in general. This is the one that has allowed you to install the public beta. No need to restart. Then you download the complete iOS 9 for the specific terminal (above are the links). Once downloaded, what you have to do is, in iTunes, instead of hitting restore, you give it to update with the shift key in Windows and point to the downloaded file. And the process begins. As you have given it to update, instead of restoring, what iTunes does is a downgrade from the beta of iOS 9.1 to ios 9.0. And when it ends you have the same phone as before but with the ios9.

If I had read you before, it would save me the hellish wait to restore all installed apps, accommodate them, log in, etc…. I will test it on another device. Thanks!

I do not recommend this method to downgrade from a beta as unstable as iOS 9.1 to iOS 9.0. It works, but the chances of errors, glitches, and general malfunctions are very high.

@Harely Topper, and how do I remove the profile from public betas?

I get that it could not update because the file is not supported

#Harely I have followed your instructions and perfectly, then I have made a copy and I have restored again so that a complete installation of iOS 9.0 and all the Apps was made. Thanks a lot.

They do not have to wait that long, or restore, or lose information. Just put your iphone, ipods, ipads in recovery mode (pressing the start button and the lock button for 15 seconds and then the start button for 5 seconds) once the itunes icon appears, on itunes you will get the option to update it to the official ios 9.0.

the new ios (9.0.2) brings more errors ... it sticks when I write and also when I enter the security code and there it is.

If I have many problems with iOS 9.1 beta 3 I already know why I updated it and it was not a clean installation, I want to restore it to update again, if I made a backup while in beta 3, when I restore and reinstall beta 3 in a way clean I can restore that backup right?

I searched the internet and it came out that I had to delete some hosts and I did it, what do I do?
