How to free up RAM memory quickly on your iPad or iPhone

iPad-Mini-04

Have you ever felt your iPad or iPhone is getting slower than normal as time goes by? Apple keeps doing a good job of automatically handling RAM on your devices, but since not everything is rosy in software, there are a few occasional hiccups. Rebooting the phone usually eliminates memory usage, but that process is too slow for some. Fortunately, there is a much faster way to clean up the RAM on your iOS device so you can get your phone or tablet back to normal. We will show you how to do it in a guide, step by step and very fast.

The process of freeing up RAM in iOS is different from a "soft and hard" restart, and is especially useful for most iOS devices with 1GB of RAM or less, running the latest versions of iOS.

Free up RAM on iOS

Step 1: To get started, just press and hold the power button on your device iOS until you see the message on the screen that says «Delete«.

Step 2: Do not cancel, and do not slide the button to turn off the device. When you see the slide to power off on the screen, while still holding down the power button (without releasing it), press and hold the Home button simultaneously for a few seconds until the black screen appears and you return to the Home screen.

Well done now unlock the device and double tap the Home button to activate the applications in use. You will notice that all your running applications are still there, however if you try to switch to any of them you will see it reload. This is because the steps outlined above dump all of your non-critical data from RAM, giving you a "clean and smooth" environment to operate.

While this cheat cannot be a complete substitute for hard-reboot, it might come in handy sometimes. That being said, it is unlikely that owners of newer iOS devices like the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad Pro with 2GB of RAM will ever need to perform this memory release. But as mentioned above, on older iPhones and iPads running iOS 9.0 or higher, this could be very useful.
