How to handle iTunes backups

iTunes

Have you restored your iPhone or iPad without realizing that you had important photos, or WhatsApp conversations that you did not want to lose? It is something that has happened to all of us on occasion. Hopefully, all may not be lost, as the iOS and iTunes backup system works quite well. We already explain how to manage the iCloud backups of our iPad. A very comfortable and automatic option, but one that has a major drawback, which is that the backup can only be recovered by restoring the device, which is quite limiting. iTunes offers us the possibility of creating backups, for which we must synchronize with it, which is very convenient if we take into account that it allows us to do it without any type of cable, only being connected to the same WiFi. What advantages does this have? Well, first, that they are stored on your computer, so you can even make a backup copy in another location. And the best thing is that you can recover it at any time, you do not have to restore the device. How are copies made? We explain it step by step.

The first thing to do is tell iTunes to take care of the copies, for which we will click within Backup Copies on the "This computer" option. Once that is done, iTunes will take care of making a copy when you sync your device. You can make a copy at any time by clicking on the "Make a copy now" button..

When you want to restore a copy, click on the "Restore copy" button, and a window will appear with the copy that you can restore. It does not have to be from the same device, it allows you to recover copies from other devices, even on different iOS, but it's not a bug-free process if you do it like this. Theirs is that each device has its copy.

Choose the copy you want to recover and click on restore. Depending on the size of it, the process may take more or less time. At the end, you will have your device as it was at the time of the backup.

From the iTunes Preferences menu you can see the copies that you have available, and delete those that you don't want to use anymore. ¿Where the backups are located? On Mac you should go to the path "Users> (your user)> Library> Application Support> MobileSync> Backups" and on Windows "C: Users (your user) AppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSyncBackups". You can access those folders and back them up to another location to further ensure that you won't lose data.

All that is very good, but I would add something else: when you go to restore the iOS or upgrade it, take the most recent backup and move it to another location on the HD. Many times, without knowing why, iTunes has deleted my last copy. Luckily I'm farsighted ...

There is a serious problem with the IWork applications (pages, numbers and Keynote). Only some documents are restored (those copied to iTunes). I have tried to recover those that were not copied by "opening" the backup with juicephone, but the files appear with the ending ".pages-tef". These files are unreadable (even modifying the termination) because the index file is lost.
As a result, I started to synchronize my documents with ICloud and I have a second problem. Without connection to the network the documents are not opened. With connection to the network there is a significant delay because they are first synchronized with the cloud.
Has the same happened to them? Any suggestion?

Well, I think it has a difficult solution, because it is just as you say, or at least the same thing happens to me. That is one of the reasons why I do not use document synchronization in iCloud, it is a point that Apple should improve a lot.

-I have connected the iPhone5 to the iTunes of my Macbook
-I wanted to make a backup copy of the iPhone on the computer, since the iCloud is full. The last copy I made was from April of this year
-The fool of me, instead of hitting «Make a copy now», I have hit «Restore copy»
-What happened? Well, the iPhone is as if it lived in April! WhatsApp has messages until April, the last photos of May and June do not appear on the reel, the appearance and applications are from before ...
    -Bbbbrrrrr… !!! I almost had a fit!
-Is there any solution to recover the mobile phone as it was today in the morning?
I guess those photos weren't magically deleted… right? I think they have to be on my mobile ... since in iTunes I see the total of the ones I had until today ...

ITunes may have made a more recent backup. Try to see if there is one from today or a few days ago.

Thanks for your answer Luis, but unfortunately no, there is no more recent copy. I guess it's not good news, is it?
I have 1175 photos on the roll of the mobile, and in the summary of the iPhone in iTunes, at the bottom, it appears that there are 2137 photos. But I don't see them on the reel… Where are they? Can they be recovered?

If you don't have a backup, I don't know a way to get it back. I'm sorry.

That cannot be done like this because like this, you need the Wondershare Dr.Phone program, which if I'm not mistaken will not work with iOS 8.3
