When we jailbreak our device, we are opening the door to a whole world of new possibilities such as removing restrictions or using functions of a more updated device in an older one. But sometimes a user tries to install everything they find in Cydia, or just realizes after jailbreaking that they don't need to. That is why in this article we will explain how to remove the jailbreak, whatever the reason you want to remove it.
There is a quick and simple answer if we want to remove the jailbreak, but in this article we will not only explain the correct method with all the details, but we will also explain other methods and how do we not have to try to remove the jailbreak. You have all the answers after the jump.
How NOT to remove the jailbreak
First of all I would like to explain how not to remove the jailbreak. When I first did it to my iPhone 4S and had to take it for repair, I did something I still don't understand how it worked: restore from Settings / General / Reset / Delete content and settings. Although it worked for me, the normal thing if we try to do this is that the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad cannot start again and stays on the block. If you want to remove the jailbreak, it is recommended to use one of the following methods.
How to remove the jailbreak
Restoring with iTunes
It is the easiest, but it may not be the best option. If we want to remove the jailbreak, one of the options is to perform the following steps:
- We connect the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to our Mac or PC.
- We open iTunes.
- We select our device from the upper left (see first image).
- We select "Restore iPhone".
The problem with this method is that if we use iTunes to restore we will always install the latest version of iOS that continues to be signed. If we want to remove the jailbreak to start over from 0 and restore with iTunes, most likely it will be updated to a version of iOS that does not have a jailbreak available and we will lose it until a new tool is released.
With Cydia Impactor
Since no method of removing the jailbreak is perfect, I'll also mention a tool that Saurik himself created: Cydia Impactor. But why is this method not perfect? Well, because Saurik has not released an update compatible with the tools to jailbreak iOS 9 and later.
This tool was created solely and exclusively for restore a jailbroken iOS device from the device and leave it at the same version where it was, so it can be jailbroken again. Its operation is very simple: once the search in Cydia is done and installed, it is executed, it is confirmed that we want to restore and we wait.
Have you had any questions or do you already know how to remove the jailbreak?
I have iOS 10 and I would like to do the jail breake if you can tell me
The iOS 10 JailBreak according to what I have read, is not ready for 64-bit architecture devices yet, and even if it was, neither the public beta of iOS 10 has come out yet to test the JailBreak of it, so be patient, that the developers will be working with that Jesse.
Cydia impactor worked perfect for me,
Regards!!!
The best way is with iTunes and it is NOT necessary to update, you just have to keep the .ipsw file of the iOS version you have on your device (usually iTunes sends it to the Windows trash after a while), for this you must press and hold Press the Shift key on your keyboard while you click the "Restore iPhone" button, this will open an explorer window where you can locate the .ipsw file to restore.
