How to restrict internet access on your iPad, iPhone and computer

Configure-Airport-10

The Internet is a great work and leisure tool for the whole family, but you must always be careful how the little ones in the house use it. Establishing what hours minors can access and which ones cannot be very useful, preventing them from connecting to the internet, for example, when we are not at home or when it's time to do homework. Apple routers (Time Capsule, Airport Extreme and Airport Express) allows us, thanks to the Airport Utility, to configure which devices can access the internet and at what times, even to make different configurations for the different days of the week. We explain step by step how to restrict internet access with these devices.

Configure-Airport-07

We open the Airport Utility on our computer and select our router. Click on the Edit button.

Configure-Airport-08

In the window that opens, we must access the «Network» tab, and there we have to activate the access control (arrow) and once activated, click on «With temporary restriction«.

Configure-Airport-09

This window is where we can add the different devices that we want to configure, and the access times:

  1. Click on the "+" button to add a device
  2. We write how we want to identify the device
  3. We must write your MAC address. To do this we have to go to Settings> General> Information> WiFi address. We must write the numbers and letters of the address (the: are added automatically)
  4. We must configure the hours and days that we want the device to have access.

Once the device (or several) has been added, click on Save and then we will have to restart the router. When you are online again, the changes will have taken effect and those devices They will only be able to connect to your WiFi network in the hours and days that you have specified. Quite a peace of mind for many parents, for sure.
