How to share Live Photos on iOS 9

Live Photos

Live Photos has been one of the most striking improvements of the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. In addition to the improvement of the rear and front camera, and the possibility of recording 4K video, this new function is added, which makes the snapshots really small fragments of video that are animated when 3DTouching on the screen of the new iPhones. Although these images can only be captured on the latest iPhones, yes they can be shared with any device that has iOS 9, even with Macs, but be careful how you do it because not just any method works.

Share-Live-Photos

If you do not share a Live Photo using any of the supported methods, what you will send will only be a conventional photo, in JPG format. To keep its special format you must share it using any of these methods:

  • AirDrop, the system to share files wirelessly with any other iOS or Mac OS X device that supports it. Display the control center on the target device, activate AirDrop if you did not have it active, and in your photo select this method to share it.
  • Shared Photos: Create a shared photo album in iCloud and all users who have access to the album will be able to see the Live Photos whenever you upload them to it.
  • iMessage: Apple's instant messaging application allows Live Photos to be shared between iOS devices and with Mac computers.

Only these three methods maintain the properties of these photos. If you do it using any other procedure, such as via email, the animation will be lost. FaceBook and other applications may soon allow these types of files, but this is not the case for now.

We insist that these photos can be viewed on any iOS device but as long as you have iOS 9 installed. It is not compatible, at least for the moment, with Android devices, since they do not support any of the three methods that allow these files to be shared.
