How to sync your episodes watched on Plex with Trakt.tv

Every lover of television series wears a control of those seasons that you have still pending and of the chapters that you have not seen yet. In fact, the App Store is full of applications that serve precisely for this and that offer you the comfort of being able to mark from your mobile or Apple Watch that you have just seen a certain episode of a certain season. But what would you think if everything was done automatically? Thanks to Plex for Apple TV and its customization options it is possible and we will explain how.

Trakt.tv is a service that many applications such as iShows (my favorite) use to synchronize the episodes seen and the seasons you are following. It is a web service with its own API that we are going to take advantage of to add to Plex. Thanks to a plugin for Plex available on GitHub, the procedure is very simple.

The first thing is to make an account at trakt.tv, which is very fast and free. Access the GitHub page from Plex-Trakt-Scrobbler, which is what this plugin is called. Download the zip and unzip it on your computer, and save the file «Trakttv.bundle» which is the one that interests us. Now go to the Plex path where the bundles are saved and put that file there:

  • OS X: ~ / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server / Plug-ins
  • Linux: / var / lib / plexmediaserver / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server / Plug-ins
  • Windows XP: C: Documents and Settings [username] Local SettingsApplication DataPlex Media ServerPlug-ins
  • Windows Vista and later: C: Users [username] AppDataLocalPlex Media ServerPlug-ins

Now open Plex's "Media Manager" and in "Channels" place the cursor over the "Trakt" channel that has just appeared, you will then see a cogwheel that you must press to configure the service. Enter your username and password for «Trakt.tv» and check the "Scrobble" box just below. Then click on "Save" and you have everything ready.

From this moment every time you watch a series the episode will be marked as seen on Trakt.tv and therefore in all the applications that use the service to synchronize, like iShows, iTV Shows 3 and many more.

On Mac, that Plex path does not exist and if you try to create your path manually and place the downloaded file there… ..it does not work. In Plex Channels the Trackt Channel does not appear.
    Anyone know any alternative way?

If the path exists. Go to the Finder menu and in Go-Route paste the route as it appears in the article. You will see how you enter directly into that folder

Apologies! You're right. Looking for it manually I did not find it, but in the Finder full to the menu "go to the folder" and pasting the path exactly as you indicate it, it has appeared to me.
Again my apologies and thank you very much for the contribution

Like it doesn't work anymore. Now it is with a PIN and I have not been able to get it to authenticate
