How to use HomePod without a WiFi connection

The homePod is a smart speaker, and as such it needs an internet connection via WiFi to be able to perform all the tasks that this implies, from playing Apple Music to listening to Podcasts or searching for news or the weather on the internet. But something that many do not know is that you can use it as a speaker without being connected to any WiFi.

Taking the HomePod to a place without internet connection and enjoying music with all the quality that the Apple speaker can offer us is possible, and also very easy to do, no need for third-party apps or any kind of weird trick. It is an option that Apple itself offers us and that we explain to you in video and in the following article.

First of all we must configure our HomePod so that anyone can access it, it is a necessary requirement to be able to use it without a WiFi connection. To do this, we open the Home application, which is where the HomePod settings are, and click on the house icon in the upper left corner, selecting the "Home Settings" option in the menu that seems to us. Once that is done, we select the house where our HomePod is, and we go down through the options offered to us until "Allow access to speakers" (As of iOS 12.2 it will be "Speakers and Televisions").

This is the section in which we must give access to "Everyone", but don't worry, because if you want you can restrict that access by means of a password so that not just anyone can access your HomePod. From now on, you can use your HomePod without the need for a WiFi connection. You just have to use the playback app on your iPhone or iPad, press the AirPlay icon to send it to the HomePod, and you will see how despite not having WiFi the speaker will appear among the options. Of course, the music is transmitted via WiFi "peer to peer", so that although a WiFi network is not necessary, you do need to have active WiFi on your iPhone or iPad.
