iOS 18 Beta 5 arrives with important new features in Safari

IOS 18 BETA 5

Apple has launched the fifth Beta of iOS 18, for now only for developers, with the surprise of the inclusion of Safari's "Distraction Control" and changes to the Photos app, in addition to other performance improvements and fixes to known bugs from previous Betas.

Two weeks after the launch of the last Beta, Apple has just launched the fifth Beta of iOS 18. For those who are not too aware, we remember that in addition to this Beta option, right now we also have the Betas of iOS 18.1, which at the moment only has a first version released, and which includes some of the features of Apple Intelligence, such as the new Siri, although at the moment only restricted to the United States and English as a language. Beta 5 of iOS 18.0 includes one of the features that we saw in the presentation of iOS 18 but that we had not been able to test until now: Distraction Control. This new functionality allows you to eliminate annoying elements for most such as cookie and GDPR banners, we can even eliminate ads from web pages or videos that play automatically. At the moment the options for this new function are not synchronized through iCloud, so we will have to configure it on all our devices manually. And in the event that we want to eliminate ads, they will appear again when we refresh the page, since it is not a function whose purpose is that.

There have also been tweaks to the Photos application. Target of much criticism for its design change, Apple seems to have listened to users and has removed some elements, such as the carousel that appears on the top screen. Before you could swipe sideways to see elements that you had added, now that functionality has been eliminated, and if you want to access your memories or other elements you will have to scroll down to view them. At the moment this Beta is only available for developers, and remember that if you have iOS 18.1 installed on your devices, it will not appear to be installed, as it is a different Beta option.
