Performance iPhone 4s with iOS 8

We already said it in our Considerations before installing iOS 8 And here's the proof that updating is not the most appropriate in certain cases. If you have a iPhone 4s, you are one of those who should think if the improvements to the operating system are worth sacrificing performance.

The iPhone 4s is the oldest model that supports iOS 8 and, as always happens, it is the one that most it is going to cost him to keep the flow that characterizes the Apple system. If we are one of those who prefer a suitable experience on a day-to-day basis, it may be worth it to stay on iOS 7.1.2.

As you can see in the image that heads the post, there you have a compilation of the time in seconds it takes the iPhone 4s in doing certain common tasks. The comparison has been made between iOS 7.1.2 and the Golden Master version of iOS 8, so without being conclusive results, they are indicative in the absence of doing the same checks with the final version that will be released in a few minutes.

The table shows that the iPhone 4s with iOS 8 Golden Master increase waiting time in all the tests, in some more notable than in others but, in short, the performance of the terminal is diminished after updating to iOS 8. It may be that in future updates of iOS 8, these times will improve significantly although I doubt very much that come to be equated with those of iOS 7.

If you own an iPhone 4s, I would advise you to wait to see the opinions of people who do update this afternoon. Note that If you upgrade to iOS 8 and regret it, there will be no going back.

Pes soon we started with the performance problems, and we are talking about a 4s, programmed obsolescence in its purest form.

  2.   juanjo said

and on an iPhone 5? The performance suffers too? Normally after two big iOS updates the devices start to go slow ...

I have 4s from all betas and it still goes smoothly, if one of them goes slow you don't even notice.

Some way to block that you want to download I only have a 4s and a 5s. For my 5s I do not want for now because I know that iOS8 is going to bring a lot of fights I prefer to wait for 8.0.1 or more total updates with what I have my cell works very well.

Well, the same play that happened to the iPhone 4 with ios7. Come on, the strategy is clear: worsen the older phone to force a new purchase. What a shame. It happened to the 3GS with the 6, the iPhone 4 with the 7 and now the iPhone 4S with the 8 rivers.
    This applebes politics of shame

It is clear that Apple is already throwing the knife to the neck of the 4S ... and then we pute Android for the little coverage in updates, I think that a 4S is a good phone so that it goes that badly on an ios8
    DISASTROUS

In my 4s, the activation of the «reticle» for the camera is impossible… it is always deactivated. (At the moment it is the first failure that I see ...
as far as speed is concerned ... I would say that it is just as fluid or maybe more ... (of course ... instead of updating I always do a restore and that takes the weight off the apps and gives speed ...
Let's see if there is any more error ...

I do not understand why many get angry with the support of the iPhone 4s, it is still a support warrior since iOS 5, 6, 7 and 8 now, Android supports for a year and a half in the high-end, Apple is giving it 4 years of update and they say that planned obsolescence?

Someone who has a good and detailed account of his experience with a 4S .. since I cannot stand a slow computer, and with ios 7 it is already a bit slow.

At least you could say that the times table was taken from Ars Tecnica ...

I have a 4S and I have to say that my experience did not get worse with the update to iOS7, although in this case I will wait a few weeks. Of course, if I update it will be like an installation from scratch, not an update on what exists.

To update the 4S from scratch, what should I do? I mean that I lose my photos, books, etc ……?
Once updated from scratch, I can then enter the photos …… ..?
I'll be waiting for your answers,
    Greetings and good morning everyone.

Elboxtero, no, you don't lose anything ... I updated it and I sincerely want to go back to iOS 7, 8 feels slow and heavy, but I'm afraid I'm going to lose my phone unlock (although it came that way from the factory) ... Someone would clarify my doubts, please?

    1.    Damian said

Omar, you can't go back to IOS 7 because Apple no longer signs it, no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to, you can only restore but always to IOS 8. Too bad the SHSH XD no longer exist

    do not update 4s

You complain about android, that if we do not have support that if you milk, in each update that they take out the mobile improves a lot in performance, what a pity that you have not tried a pure android like a nexus. Instead of helping you update, you lose performance Hahahahahahahaha

  19.   A. Esteve said

I updated it a few hours after its launch, I did it via iTunes without restoring, and I have not noticed much difference in performance, but the battery life has improved ... At least in my case ...
