The first customers who ordered an Apple Watch are already receiving it in their homes and how could it be otherwise, iFixit was waiting for its unit to gut it and thus assess the difficulty of an Apple watch repair.
The unit that they have dismantled for the moment corresponds to the sports edition of the Apple Watch with a 38-millimeter case. In this case, the watch comes with a 205 mAh battery (compared to the 300 mAh of some competitors such as the Moto 360) that provides an output voltage of 3,8V and thanks to which, the watch should last at least 18 hours without having to recharge.
After removing the battery, iFixit had to fight with some of the smallest screws they've ever seen to date, forcing them to make some modifications to their tools in order to continue with the extraction of components from the Apple Watch.
Another interesting detail that iFixit's work reveals is that diagnostic port still present on commercial versions of the Apple Watch. In the network there was an open debate on this subject and the truth is that it was rare that Apple manufactured two variants of its watch.
In the end the doubt has been resolved and we see that after removing the protective cover, a set of six contacts whose usefulness we still do not know but that, surely, will serve as a way to carry out forced restorations or perform a device use diagnosis.
Finally, we once again clarify that the Apple Watch is waterproof but not submersible. Proof of this are the rubber gaskets that surround the watch case and some components such as the diagnostic port, button, speaker or digital crown, that is, the possible water inlets.
For the rest, nothing out of the ordinary at the moment since the iFixit team keeps working. We will inform you if there is any relevant news about the Apple Watch hardware that the Cupertino company didn't tell us.
