Infuse for Apple TV, the most complete multimedia player

Infuse-Apple-TV-09

The oldest of the safe place who remember those times when the Apple TV could be jailbroken and aTV Flash Black was installed to be able to turn it into a real multimedia player. If then they had told us that we could do that without the need for Jailbreak, surely no one would have believed it. Well, it is already a reality, because that same developer has created Infuse, a powerful media player soon to be available for Apple TV and that we have already been able to prove. We tell you our impressions and we show you how it works on video.

We have already seen in depth how Plex works on Apple TV. Infuse is a similar application but it is autonomous, that is, it does not need any server or application installed on a computer or NAS to access your library. With Infuse you can connect any shared disk on your network and access its multimedia content. The application, from your Apple TV, will be in charge of downloading the metadata to offer you information and illustrations, it will order all your files according to the title of the movie or series, and will even group the seasons of the different series so that you have your library as much as possible. neat possible.

And do not believe that it does it with a less careful interface than Plex, because at all as you can see in the images. It allows you to select between the different audio languages that the file has and even the subtitles. That you have not added subtitles to your movie? Don't worry because from the player itself you can download them from OpenSubtitles.org with a couple of clicks, even the language you want selected.

Despite the fact that the application performs the playback from the device itself, without any type of transcoding as is the case with Plex, the videos look very fluid and the access times are not long. In the absence of some details polishing (it is still in beta at the time of doing this test) and being able to test heavy mkv files, I think it is not very risky to say that Infuse is an alternative that can even outperform Plex in some respects, especially when playing files from a hard drive connected to the network without having the computer turned on. I leave you with the video to see the application in operation.

very good article only that now you have created a lot of confusion for me and what is the difference between "plex and infuse" it would be helpful if you made a comparison.

As I understand it, the difference is that Plex needs a computer connected to your local network running a Plex module or service that allows you to watch your movies from the app on your Apple TV. And the Infuse does not need a computer, its app is capable of capturing the shared folders you have on your local network, it is in charge of cataloging your content. I think that if we could load plugins like pelisalacarta here, I would stop using Kodi (Xbmc) and switch to infuse without thinking.

Luis, really what a good idea you have given me. I did not know Infuse but now I am dying to try the final version on Apple TV.
In the video you mentioned that you needed to test with large files in MKV, have you done it already? Many MKV movies have multiple audio tracks, some in HD audio (even DTS-HD), and the container file becomes somewhat cumbersome. I am very interested to know if you have managed to reproduce some fluently.

On the other hand, what I'm looking for the most is a player capable of playing FLAC music in 96/24 and 192/24 at least. In the video you don't mention if it also plays music and in what formats it does.

I can't install the beta but hopefully someone tested this and it works fine.
    Thank you!

I have bought the application for my Apple TV 4 and it does not work for me. Every time I play a video from my imac I get a message that tells me that the audio cannot be played, that if I want to continue anyway, I give it to continue and it does not play anything. What am I doing wrong? Have I thrown 10 euros in the trash?
