How to install iOS 10 beta 1 on my iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad

iOS 10

Good. Apple has already released iOS beta 10 1  and I want to install the new version, what do I do? The first thing is to ask yourself: is it worth it? The answer should not come from whether we have read that it works better or worse, if not from whether we are going to take advantage of it and if we assume the failures that we may experience using a first trial version of an operating system. The first beta of iOS 10 is only available for developers and, initially, it should only be used by these developers to prepare their applications so that everything is ready for September, when iOS 10 will be officially released.

Although, well, that of what should only be used by developers it is in theory. If Apple wanted to close the door to non-developers, it would only have to follow the trend it abandoned last summer, the one in which an iOS beta could only be installed if a developer had registered our UDID to be able to install betas. Since last year, since the first beta of iOS 9.0 to be exact, any user can download an iOS .ipsw and install it on their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. That is what we will explain in this post. Of course, insisting that we do not recommend the installation of this or any other software in beta phase due to what may happen.

How to download and install iOS 10 beta 1

On June 14, my partner Miguel wrote a post explaining a method that would allow us to download a profile so that the update would appear from the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad settings. As the method is simpler and works perfectly, I have taken the liberty of downloading the profile and uploading it to my Dropbox, in case they delete it. To use this simple method we just have to download THIS PROFILE from the Safari of the device on which we want to install iOS 10 and open it. It will enter the profile installation and, upon installing it, it will tell us if we want to restart. We reboot and then we go to Settings / General / Software update, where we will see that the iOS 10 beta 1 update appears. I recommend restoring the device before updating using this method.

What we are going to explain next is the method that has always been used, in case the previous method does not work for you for whatever reason. It is quite simple and you will only have to follow these steps, but not before remembering that it is worth making a backup of all your important data:

Requirements to install iOS 10 beta

  • An iOS device compatible with iOS 10.
  • A computer compatible with iTunes (Linux does not work).
  • Xcode 8, without which we may receive Error 14. The new version is in macOS Sierra or from the apple software center.

Compatible devices

  • iPhone 6s
  • 6s iPhone Plus
  • iPhone 6
  • 6 iPhone Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5c
  • 12.9 iPad Pro
  • 9.7 iPad Pro
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air
  • iPad 4
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad mini 2
  • XNUMXth generation iPod touch

Process to install iOS 10 beta

  1. The first thing we have to do is get the firmware. A while ago, if I remember correctly, the website ipsw.me had them available on their page, but something happened, I don't remember what this was, and they stopped offering them. Another reliable website is getios.com, from where we can download all the firmwares available for Apple devices. iOS 10 beta 1 is not available on getios.com, but they do offer a link to the getios10beta.com website, which is very similar to the official one and from where we can download the firmware.
    • NOTE: : It seems important to mention that this download method is not the official one. That said, and like every time something unofficial is made or used, each one must be responsible for their actions and if they decide to download the .ipsw from this website, from any other and whether or not you want to install it on your device. There are firmwares on many web pages, but I have referred you to one that has always worked for me.

getiosbeta.com

  1. Next, and this can also be step 1, we deactivate search for my iPhone on our iOS device. For this, we go Settings / iCloud, we scroll down and deactivate the option. It will ask us for the password of our Apple ID. We introduce it.

Turn off Find My iPhone

  1. With the iOS 10 beta 1 firmware already downloaded and everything ready, it will be time to install it. We can do it in two ways, but I recommend the second:
    • We tried to install it directly with iTunes (as I will explain in the next step) to see if it works.
    • We put the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad in recovery mode to avoid possible problems. As I said, I recommend this option because it is the one that gives the least errors. To put the device in recovery mode, it is best to turn it off, connect the Lightning to the base of the iDevice, press the home button and, without releasing it, connect the end of the USB to the Mac or PC with iTunes open.
  2. A window like the following will appear. We also have two options, but I recommend "Restore iPhone". As in step 2, we can always try to update, but updating it is more likely that we will encounter some other problem. Having explained the above, we press ALT (in macOS) or Shift (in Windows) and click on the chosen option (Restore iPhone…!).

Install iOS 10

  1. We look for the .ipsw file that we will have downloaded in step 1, select it and accept it. Install iOS 10 beta 1
  2. Now we can only wait and pray not to see any failure. As when we install any other version of iOS from iTunes, the process of verification and installation of iOS 10 will begin on your device. When finished, you will see the welcome screen and you can proceed to configure your iOS device.

How to update when the second beta of iOS 10 is released

Although some of you may ask this question, the answer is very simple. When we have installed an iOS beta we have also installed the profile so that the following appear to us, so we will only have to go to Settings / General / Software update and install the new version. Having launched the first on June 13, and if Apple does not decide to make a change for whatever reason, beta 2 should be released in the week of June 27, probably Tuesday the 28th. Two weeks later, and if they do. the same as last year, the first public version will be released to coincide with beta 3 for developers. Although there may be slight changes, the beta 3 for developers and the first public will be practically the same.

What if I want to wait for the first public beta?

If you want to be more sure, the best thing is to wait to a more advanced launch. A good time might be when the first public beta launches. As I mentioned above, the first public beta will likely coincide with the third for developers. Apple usually releases a new beta of all its operating systems around two weeks after the previous launch, so the beta 3 and the first public iOS 10 could arrive on July 12.

We cannot assure you that iOS 10 third beta It will work perfectly fine, but in a month it can greatly improve the performance of iOS 10 beta 1 and lower the probability of experiencing unexpected crashes.

It is likely that when the time comes we will write an article explaining the updated process for iOS 10, but for now you can visit the article we wrote last year How to subscribe to install iOS 9 public beta.

And what about, how much battery consumes?
    Does it get very hot?
Because I have read on other pages that if it gets very hot

I also read in some cases that it had problems in iPhone 6 but I still installed it and I have not noticed excessive battery consumption or overheating. The only problems that I have encountered are in the notifications, that if I answer them directly from the initial screen it turns off halfway through writing, as if it was not doing anything, and in the unexpected restart of an application (only once) . For the rest I am very satisfied and, in my humble opinion, I think it promises a lot being only the first beta.

Personally, I updated through the iPhone settings (I have an iPhone 5s) and it eats up the battery, it literally swallows it up, it can barely hold me from 8 in the morning to 8 in the afternoon with rather little use. I'm really very disappointed, but hey it's the first beta so let's hope they fix it soon. Now I will try to install it from scratch with the .ipsw without going through iOS 9.

Hello Pablo, the other day I told you that I had inhaled the ios10 beta 1 and uninstalled some App. You told me something to be able to reinstall them but I can't do it, the same as this in beta they have not put it yet, I hope you can help me.
    Thank you very much.

Yeah, look: open the App Store, search for "Apple," and tap one of its apps. Under the name of the application (such as GarageBand) it will put "Apple" in small. If you touch there, you will go to the developer's applications, which in this case is Apple. All you have to do is find the application that you have deleted and download it like any other application. Right now I am checking it from an iPad with the «iBooks» application.

      A greeting.

I just installed the beta, and it is something curious, the only detail that I do not like is that the letters and images are enlarged, for example open your player and everything will be in large icons

Hello, leibniz. I uploaded it to my Dropbox so they wouldn't throw it away and they've blocked it due to a complaint from Apple (or something similar). I have added another link.

      A greeting.
