During the developer conference, also known as WWDC, held in June last year, Apple showed the company's advances in the field of augmented reality, demonstrating what can be done with both iOS 11 and with the latest iPhone and iPad models available at that time in the market and those that were yet to come.
Quickly, and during the months leading up to the release of iOS 11, many were the developers who began to show us everything that could be done with augmented reality, whose use goes far beyond using it to create games. But as the months have passed, it seems that developer interest has dropped considerably compared to the initial months.
According to the Apptopia study, developers quickly adopted augmented reality in their applications at the launch of the final version of iOS 11, but their interest has waned in recent months. In September, developers released 300 virtual reality applications, while in October, this figure dropped to 200 applications and games. In November, the number of applications of this type reached 155 applications.
Throughout the month of December, it seems that developer interest in augmented reality has grown again, since 170 applications were published, 15 applications more than during the month of November but 30 less in the month of October. Apptopia claims that there are currently less than 1000 apps on the App Store that are related to augmented reality, and of those that are currently available are broken down as follows:
- 30% are games.
- 13.2 are training apps
- 11,9% are profits.
- 7,8% applications related to education
- 7,5% photo and video applications
- 5,4% lifestyle.
- 24,2% of the applications have been classified as other.
