iOS 11 lets you put touch controls on your AirPods, and they work on iOS 10

Since the launch of the AirPods, one of the shortcomings that people have complained about the most is not being able to control playback with them using touch controls. It is true that They are designed to use Siri, Apple's assistant that allows you to move forward, backward, pause, resume, volume up and down, but some miss being able to do it without having to give voice instructions.

Apple with iOS 11 lets you change that, and you can set touch controls independently on each AirPod, which doubles the options available right now, and you don't have to give up Siri to be able to fast-forward and rewind songs by double-tapping the AirPod. And the best thing is that once configured it works for both iOS 11 and iOS 10. We explain how to do it.

It is very simple, The first thing you need is to install iOS 11 on your iPhone or iPad. If you only want to use this first beta of iOS 11 to configure this and then you want to go back, I recommend that you make a backup of iOS 10 before updating to iOS 11, so you can restore it when you go back to iOS 10. One Once iOS 11 is installed on your iPhone or iPad, you must configure the AirPods on that device.

We already have the AirPods linked to our device and we only have to configure them. Access the Bluetooth options within the Settings menu, click on the "i" to the right of the AirPods and you will enter their settings menu (they must be connected). Notice that a new menu appears that was not in iOS 10, right in the middle of the screen. You can configure the touch control of the AirPod independently, the left and right each one in a way. The options they give you are Siri control, Play / Pause, Next Track, Previous Track and nothing. With Siri and Next Track you cover almost everything you need, except the volume, since the Pause is achieved by removing an AirPod from your ear, and it resumes when you put it back.

If you now want to go back to iOS 10, restore your device again through iTunes and recover the iCloud backup that you made previously to have everything as before. The controls you have configured will be recorded in the AirPods, so you will not lose them even if you are on iOS 10. A way to enjoy something that will come soon from this very moment.
