iOS 11 changes the operation of WiFi and Bluetooth

iOS 11 has now reached all compatible devices and many users begin to see some of the features on their devices for the first time which we have been talking about for months, including the renovated Control Center.

New customization options, being able to place shortcuts and other very interesting news but also changes in how the buttons to activate and deactivate the WiFi and Bluetooth behave. Do you turn off Bluetooth or WiFi and it turns out that they still work? It is not an error, it is that now it works like this. We explain how these new buttons work so that you understand it perfectly.

They disconnect but continue to work

In iOS 11, when you click on the WiFi or Bluetooth button to turn them off, they don't really turn off, it only disconnects from the current WiFi network and connected accessories, but it still works for the following iOS functions:

  • AirDrop
  • AirPlay
  • Apple Pencil
  • Apple Watch
  • Continuity, Hands-off and Internet Sharing
  • Location services

Disconnect from current WiFi network

If you display the control center and click on the WiFi button (in blue) it will disconnect from the network you are connected to and will not connect to any other known network, but the WiFi will continue to work for the aforementioned functions. The WiFi will reconnect to a known network when any of the following occurs:

  • Change location
  • You activate it again in the Control Center
  • You connect to a network manually in Settings> Bluetooth
  • The clock strikes 5:00 AM
  • Restart the iPhone

Disconnect from Bluetooth

If you display the control center and click on the Bluetooth icon (in blue) will disconnect from all connected accessories except those mentioned above (including Apple Watch and Apple Pencil). It will not connect to any accessory until one of the following occurs:

  • You activate it again in the Control Center
  • You connect to a device manually in Settings> Bluetooth
  • The clock strikes 5:00 AM
  • Restart the iPhone

How do I turn off Bluetooth and WiFi completely?

The only option that Apple gives us now is to enter into Settings and disable WiFi and Bluetooth manually with their respective buttons. What's the point of this? Surely many do not understand it at first, but Apple maintains that WiFi and Bluetooth are such fundamental functions that they should never be disconnected, and that if someone exceptionally wants to do it, they must enter the settings instead of having a direct access within the Control Center.

The "when the clock strikes 5:00 AM" has left me with a crooked ass, does it have any logical explanation?

I was going to ask the exact same thing. I don't understand what it has to do with ...

That the functions should never be deactivated, ok; it is understood but I choose when to activate it again so, thanks Apple! No kidding update!

Worst of all, if I don't update, I can't update the  Watch either. Thanks Apple! Thanks a lot!!!

If you disconnect the Bluetooth from the control center, the Apple Pencil is ALSO disconnected. In addition, the Bluetooth icon is always the same, whether or not the Pencil is connected, while in iOS 10 if it is disconnected it is in dimmed color and connected in intense color. Now you do not know if the Pencil is connected if you do not enter the widget screen. IOS 11 is looking terrible to me for this and many more reasons that will be discussed.

One utility that I see as positive in this is when I am transmitting music or a movie through Airplay, as the cell phone is still connected to the Wi-Fi network, for example WhatsApp messages or calls enter and the interruption causes annoying. Aires with the new function the transmission will be continuous without interruptions.

So yesterday the battery went down like the tide. In 6h I already had the phone at 60%
For those of us who move a lot throughout the day, this makes us a mess. All the time the phone looking for and trying to connect to wifis and blutuses ...
As they have said before. A long time asking for data button in the control panel and now what is loaded is what we already had ...

? Does that mean that when I update my iPhone, every day at 5AM the Bluetooth will be activated even though I never use it?
It seems ridiculous to me. It's that I never use Bluetooth. I don't have any BT gadgets connected to my iPhone.

If you do not use it, never deactivate it from the control panel and that will prevent it from activating only at 5:00 AM
