The arrival of USB-C to the iPad Pro has been a before and after for users. We have gone from depending on accessories limited by the imposition of the Lightning connector to that any device or USB-C cable can be connected to our iPad Pro. We no longer need a special adapter for something as basic as connecting our camera. to our tablet.
However, iOS limitations continue to prevent access to all files, and the absence of a file explorer means that the only possible alternative, at this time, is import photos and videos to our iPad Pro roll to later use it in third-party applications. This could change with iOS 13, since a new API will allow us to pass them directly to the application we want.
Right now if we connect a Photo camera or an SD card to our iPad Pro, the only alternative we have is to import them into our Photo Library, although that is not our final intention. Once in the Photos application, we can use it in other applications, such as Lumafusion to edit a video, or Pixelmator for photographic editing. This step will be unnecessary as of iOS 13, as according to 9to5Mac, Apple would be working on an API that would allow third-party applications to directly import these photos and videos from external storage, bypassing the reel. This will mean a significant saving of time and storage on our device.
What is not talked about is the possibility of having a complete file explorer that allows us to see the content of any external storage connected to our iPad Pro. Being able to import photos or videos is great, but sometimes what we want is to view movies or view documents. Being able to select several of these items, copy them, move them, rename them, import them into other apps ... all this would be a giant step towards an iPad Pro that would really be a serious alternative to any laptop.
