IOS 2 beta 15.1 does not fix a bug that removes photos from the library

In fact, in our country there are few of us who use the Apple Messages application on a recurring basis. And it is that the typical SMS of a lifetime to communicate with other people were long ago by the arrival of apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram, so you might not even notice this important bug that has been active on iOS since iOS version 15.

The truth is that this problem is quite worrying for all those who use the Apple Messages app to send photos and it seems that the photos sent through Messages are automatically deleted without us being able to do anything. The problem is worrisome as even when we all think of iCloud backup as a possible solution it will not do either.

Photos are removed from the photo library by deleting the message thread

Once we have saved the photo and we want to delete the chat for whatever reason, we have the photo stored in iCloud. The moment we want to make a backup copy once the conversation in messages has been deleted, along with the photos stored in the album, they disappear.

In this case, Ezekiel's tweet is clear and direct. Apple does not fix the bug in beta 2:

To reproduce this problem, what we have to do is follow the steps indicated on the MacRumors website. Logically do not do it with photos that you need or want to store, if you want to try do it with photos that you do not need. These would be the steps to see the failure:

  • We open a conversation in Messages and save a photo
  • We check that this is saved and we delete the chat from which we have saved the image
  • We realize that the photo is still stored in the iCloud library. Now we make a backup in iCloud
  • The photo is completely removed from the device and we lose it

This means that if you have photos or images in the Messages app that you want to save for whatever reason, don't delete the conversation or you would lose them completely when backing up from iCloud. Surely Apple is already working on a solution to this bug, we will wait for news about it in future versions.
