IOS 3 beta 15.1 includes native recording in ProRes for iPhone 13 Pro

Native ProRes on iOS 15.1 beta 3

A few days ago the third beta for developers of iOS 15.1. This version will be the second released after the iOS 15.0.1 version, released expressly to solve the unlocking problem with the iPhone 13 Apple Watch. In this version, iOS 15.1 is still in beta status. The SharePlay feature that Apple removed is back in the betas throughout the summer. Also, in this third beta the option to be able to capture video in ProRes has been integrated. Of course, only in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max as promised in the presentation on September 14.

iOS 15.1 will allow the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max to record in ProRes

It was something that we expected to come but we did not know when: native recording in ProRes for nuevos iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Recording in this Apple codec is only available for the Pro range due to the high storage consumption and the use of all the possible performance of the device. Remember that a minute of recording can weigh between 1,5GB and 6GB depending on the chosen resolution:

One minute of video in 10-bit ProRes HDR is roughly 1,7GB in HD and 6GB in 4K. ProREs can be captured up to a maximum of 30 fps at 4K and up to 60 fps at 1080p.

To be able to activate native recording All you have to do is access the Video Capture Settings from the Settings app. Next, when we enter the Camera app we will have an icon that will indicate whether or not we are recording in ProRes and if we press we can activate or deactivate the capture under this codec. We have to take into account that the recording will take up a large amount of storage and that is why Apple has limited the feature to the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max over 128GB for 4K 30fps recording.
