iOS 6.1 causes trouble picking up the 3G network

Crash in iOS 6.1.1

It seems that iOS 6.1 is not being a reference update for many users. Its news is scarce and to top it all, many users are experiencing a annoying bug that prevents the iPhone from using the 3G network in areas that previously operated at full speed if we had an older version of iOS.

I myself have suffered from this problem the other day with my iPhone 5 free but used with the Orange company. At first it seemed strange to me and I attributed it to a problem with the operator, however, several Internet forums (including the official Apple one) complain about this bug that some users suffer on their iPhone, regardless of the model or operator. There is only one common denominator in all of them: iOS 6.1.

In old versions of iOS, it was enough to put the terminal in airplane mode and deactivate it to recover the 3G signal, but this does not work in iOS 6.1 and the phone stays with the EDGE network all the time, making surfing the Internet a painstaking ordeal.

Moment there is no solution to this bug except to go through the SAT so that Apple gives us a new terminal (refurbished) with a version prior to iOS 6.1. You can also try to reset the network settings or, in the worst case, restore again if the problem is too annoying. Let's hope there is an update soon and that the doors to the Jailbreak are not closed.

Actualización: in iDownloadblog we see that Vodafone UK has sent a message to its customers with iPhone not to update to iOS 6.1 due to this failure with 3G connectivity.

It does not compensate me, it is still a beta and that can give you headaches at the level of stability (although it does not usually).

I only get excited about betas when there is a major evolutionary leap. When iOS 7 comes out, I will give it a try in advance, but from there to iOS 6.1.1 and install the beta being already in iOS 6.1, it does not make much sense unless you are a developer.

I have iOS 6.1 on my iPhone 4S and the 3G works perfectly for me! only that sometimes when I have the Wi-Fi network activated, the Wi-fi symbol suddenly disappears and uses 3G… But that happens very little and takes about 2 seconds to return to normal! I am from Venezuela!

This problem also happens to me. I have an iphone 4s with the orange company. The problem is that the 3G is very slow. It takes forever to open any page. I hope they release a new version of Ios and correct it.

Apple is screwing it up. All those little problems that iOS lacked for me were its biggest advantage, an advantage that it is losing by leaps and bounds.

I had a 3g connection in my parking lot, justilla but fine ...
The last time I tried to connect to the internet (not email but web) it took me so long that I had to leave it to be able to do it ...
with 5.1.1 it did not happen to me ...
also, it gives me that it consumes more battery and the brightness sensor fails (even before doing the jb) so I deactivated it and changed it manually ...
Instead of getting better they stagnate and some things make them worse ...
the rest of the device is great for me (4s)

You finally comment on it. We are very many who are with these problems. I had been with constant cuts for a week, despite the fact that the 3G appeared on the screen and the coverage was full.

But the thing does not stop there. Today I went to the apple store in parksur, and they gave me a new one, with ios 6.0.1. Well, once configured again, it worked perfectly, and obviously I was not going to update to ios 6.1 again. but the update was downloaded by itself when it was connected to Wi-Fi and the electricity grid, and before finishing the download (download only, not installation), it said "preparing for update". I have not installed it, but the problem has returned, so the problem begins when "preparing" the phone for ios 6.1

As it is, I am quite outraged. Right now the phone is worthless. cuts are constant. Let's hope they get an update now and that I fix it, and that I have not "spoiled" the phones forever, because it would be a very fat

Uy I thought it was Claro's problem in Colombia but reading this news I see that Apple is boring us. The truth is that to always be number one Apple must improve day by day and keep us, as consumers, satisfied and proud to carry such an important brand worldwide.

  9.   Aldo Raine said

Now they have given me a new one, and the failure is repeated because of ios 6.1. As they do not fix it quickly, taking advantage of the fact that it is brand new and without any scratches, I sell it and buy the galaxy s3, because on top of that they wash their hands, they do not recognize the failure, and the version of ios 6.1.1 that is in beta phase does not speak of this error.

  10.   Aldo Raine said

By the way, restoring network settings, or configuring it as new without loading the backup, DOES NOT WORK. It only helped me to lose my backup and have to configure everything again 2 times. Or what is the same, a huge waste of time. On the other hand, there are people who do not connect 3G or take time to connect. For me, like many other people, the problem is that both the coverage bars and the 3G icon appear on the screen. Come on, theoretically there is a 3G signal, and there is, but it is not stable: they are constant cuts that prevent chatting or opening any application that needs internet. And it starts to get very annoying. Above with the replaced phone, I only downloaded the update and the same thing happened to me again ...

  11.   Diesel said

Apple's clear strategy to cover the security hole to avoid jailbreal in its 6.1.2 or whatever when people are forced to update, I will sell it as soon as I can and pyro at Android.

What you say is like the cook who suspects that he has unfriendly customers in the restaurant and, to find out, starts making all the dishes that are too salty to see if they get tired and leave. With that solution, the unfriendly and many of the nice ones are going to go away and he is going to lose no matter where you look at him. No, it is a bug. One of those that sneak in because the programmers cannot be in everything, because iOS is more complex every day and perhaps because the quality controls are not so strict or are not effective. What I would like is that these things could be fixed with cumulative PATCHES, as Windows does. Yes, now we will have 6.1.1 but the way to install involves seeing the progress bar and praying that the phone reboots; On the other hand, with a Windows update, the affected files are patched and it is not necessary to fiddle with the entire bloody operating system. 🙁

Hahaha, I have an iphone 5 and a htc one x + .. I assure you that for every ios failure there are 500 android. If you like doing the cousin with your mobile you know but if you want a smartphone as God intended ... that can only be achieved by having ios.

      1.    David Vaz Guijarro said

You look for a good rom for the HTC One X + and you will see that it does not have 500 bugs as you say ……. Both iOS and Android, for my part, are good operating systems, I use them both, and no problem.

    3.    rotten apple said

Completely agree with you. Before it was not so noticeable that the updates were made to cover the holes in the system so that the phone cannot be unlocked. The worst of all and more annoying is that with the new update the coverage of the phone is already affected, leaving no choice but to update it, thus annoying users. Don't these gentlemen think the damage they are doing? Personally, I have had this problem since Saturday and without having it "jailbreaked."
I prefer to go to a system that does not have so many obstacles because, what is the use of having a nice mobile phone if it does not even maintain its coverage?

I have a 3GS and, since I updated to iOS 6, I must have the 3G activated yes or yes to be able to receive calls or messages (with data activated or deactivated). If I deactivate it, although it shows me the indicator with the maximum coverage, I do not receive calls or messages.
    It's quite annoying, really 🙁

  17.   Raffy said

I already said what happens with the 3G and that is the fault, I am all the time with the airplane mode because it goes wrong

  18.   incom2 said

I was just about to prepare things to update my iPhone 6.1, which is on 4, to 5.0.1 and now you come out with these ... is it a general problem, or does it only happen if it is jailbroken? Could it have to do with having jailbroken the previous version, and when updating and restoring the copy, a file that shouldn't have been sneaked in? 🙁

    1.    David Vaz Guijarro said

I recommend that you stay where you are for now, but save SHSH in case Apple closes the jail untethered in the next update at least you can go up to 6.1

      1.    incom2 said

Thanks for the reply. The bad thing is that for a while now, iOS has noticed that it has degraded; I suspect that with the release of iOS 6 some Cydia tweak must have included a file that did not touch and the phone has left me a bit silly (hang up restarting the phone with the power and home buttons when using the camera for example, and it started to occur when Cydia programs began to be adapted to iOS 6). Maybe I'll wait for 6.1.1, but I start to think that lately there are too many bugs in iOS and every day it costs me more to decide to update because of all the annoyances that it entails (at least if you have a jailbreak) and the doubts of what you are going with to find in this new version 🙁

        1.    David Vaz Guijarro said

Well then I recommend that you do something else, that you download your SHSH from the Cydia server and restore (deleting everything, and without loading a backup copy) as new the iPhone, with a custom firmware, you would already have jailbreak, and it would be fine for you again (Y)

          1.    incom2 said

I'll think about it, maybe I'll wait a few more days to see if more news about this 3G bug comes out or if it is discovered that it is a jailbreak thing and they solve it. To the very bad I could even reinstall a version 5.x that with the iPhone 4 it is possible to do it as you say, using the SHSH but as I start to update I would like to have the most current version possible ... anyway, every time that new version comes out the same thing happens to me XDDD Thanks for your advice!

      2.    incom2 said

Hello again; just comment that today I have updated to 6.1 because I have suffered a couple of crashes that I was talking about at a very bad time, and as the 3G problem seems to be limited to the iPhone 4S (and not all of them) I have decided to update. And I must say that everything went well: clean installation of 6.1, restore backup from iTunes, jailbreak with evasi0n 1.2 and so far everything is fine; In any case, I have all the SHSH kept in a safe place to downgrade to what is needed when necessary. And if I go back to having the crashes that I had randomly until now, I will begin to think that the problem is not a physical failure of the iPhone and not a software problem ... let's cross our fingers ...

        1.    David Vaz Guijarro said

Now I warn you that in iPhone 4S for now you cannot downgrade, not even that you have SHSH 😛

The only problem I had was with the sound that went away but when the jailbreak came out, I deleted a file and the sound has not failed again? but just in case it happens to me i don't plan to update my iphones 4s and 5 to ios 6.1 just in case

  24.   silksheen said

That was seen coming, do you think Apple is stupid? I knew of the impending jailbreak that was ready for when iOS 6.1 was released. Who could not suppose that Apple released the iOS with a major bug so that later users were forced to update to iOS 6.1.1 and the Jailbreak was covered. But this had to be the case, I personally my 4S works 100% with Jailbreak iOS 6.1 and the 3G works just as well as always so in part I think that it can also be a problem with the APNs of the operators.

  25.   incom2 said

I have been diving through forums and communities and it seems that the problem is worldwide, to the extent that Vodafone UK has advised its customers via SMS not to update to iOS 6.1 if they can avoid it. I do not understand that there has not been the typical reaction of the media launching the news in a catastrophic plan, like when the antennagate of the iPhone 4 ... but at best it is still too early and the news will jump shortly.

In any case, friends of Actualidad iPhone, I would prepare a tutorial to downgrade from 6.1 to 6.0.2 or earlier until the problem is confirmed or solved (maybe tomorrow a tweak will come out in Cydia that solves the problem without having to wait for Apple to make a move) .

It is bad luck that when hackers launch a jailbreak after waiting for so long, iOS turns out to be a frog -_- But on the other hand, now I understand why a beta of 6.1.1 has come out so soon: without a doubt they must already be working on the bug and maybe this beta will solve some cases or lay the foundations to solve them 🙁

The terminal works much better, more fluid and the system is much more stable. Apart from the fact that iOS 6 does not bring me anything new. iOS 5 for me the best mobile operating system from Apple to date. It saddens me to say this but the feeling it gives me as many others have already commented is that it seems that Apple is going backwards instead of improving day by day. Enough of hasty decisions, rushing with the calendar and increasingly followed product launches. I don't care how late something new and innovative arrives, but please let me do it in style.

"hahaha, no matter tomorrow we tell our customers that version 6.1 has a 3G network failure and so we will give you pause to move to the new 6.1.1 update and cover the jailbreak »

Update that of course DOES NOT ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING or some bad ones will correct some mistake of siri or any nonsense, but that as we are we think that it does us good and incidentally we are left without JAILBREAK.

I have version 6.1, I have jailbreak and my iphone5 works exactly the same as before, the network works well, I would even dare to say that it is better. If there is any bug in iphone it is due to ios6 and not ios6.1. So until IOS.7 I don't want to know anything about apple GHOST updates.

Lie, it happens to me (both with the one who first gave me the problem, and then with the one who gave me in the apple store as new). Both (both this one and the one I returned) have been apple substitutions, so if that's true, I'd find it a shame. I have never jailbroken it, and if supposedly apple gives a new one, it shouldn't have jailberak either.

Well now I comment a couple of things ...

      1) The jailbreak does NOT modify the hardware, therefore, with a restoration and without loading a backup copy, this 3G failure would be solved ...

      2) Why does an iPhone 4 with jailbreak in iOS 6.1 fail and in 6.1.1 without jailbreak it also fails?

      3) in a 4S in 6.1.1 it DOES NOT fail (No jailbreak) But in 4, I clean completely, it FAILS.

Why is it… I think that this supposed «Apple technical service technician» is a FAKE, or IS IT FOOLISH ………………… ..

So that they realize that they are not screwing around .. I like it a lot Apple .. But as they remove iOS 6.1.1etc and the jailbreak does not work .. It seems to me that bye bye Apple .. They are shameless .. Because if the jailbreak had come out and there were no rumors about the jailbreak .. The 3G would work perfectly and all.

A little thing. If indeed the supposed 3G failure is corrected with the next update, in the future, will it not give us to think about the delay of the launch of a jailbreak until it is known a priori what faults the new update may have?
Really, the new update did not contribute anything with respect to the previous one, and from what I have seen in all or almost all the cases it is clear the object for what they are removed.
Clearly, a connection failure is not something to be overlooked with so much technology and multi-billion dollar investments. As they say, you can see the duster whether it is hoax or not.

And I came from Samsung ... how I regret it !.

Didn't you think that it could be a problem of coverage of your company in the area in which they are located? They buy a very expensive phone to deny everything, because they do not sell it and buy something cheaper ... do not let their lives go by just a touch panel ... They waste time on this

I have the iphone 4S. I upgraded from ios 6.1 and I had the problem of no wifi and no bluetooth. Then I got the notice of ios 6.1.1 but out of fear, I did not. I got the notice of ios 6.1.2 and I did. I still have the same problem. Was it for not upgrading from ios 6.1.1? What I can do?

Good, I have read a large part of the comments and I have the same problem on the i5 with version 6.1.3, which is the one that came with me, we know something about the problem or possible solution. because I have already tried everything and it persists.

It does not connect to me, if it leaves the wi-fi network it is lost and it no longer connects to the 3g I have to turn it on and off. This is starting to piss me off.
