iOS 8.1 is now available alongside Apple Pay

IOS 8.1

It's 10 AM in California and Apple has been punctual with the iOS 8.1 release. Last week, during the presentation of the new iPads, the company announced that this Monday it would launch its new software for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. iOS 8.1 comes with relevant news, such as Apple Pay, the return of the Photo Reel, text messages and the option to share the Internet quickly. In addition, iOS 8.1 offers a solution to dozens of problems present in the first versions of iOS 8.

Text messages

If you have a Mac with OS X Yosemite (new version of the operating system released last week) from today you can get more out of the tool Messages. Thanks to iOS 8.1 and OS X Yosemite, our iPhone and Mac "communicate" better, since we can receive and send text messages from our computer, regardless of whether the recipient does not have an Apple device. This will make it easier to use the "Messages" application from the Mac.

Apple Pay

On the other hand, Apple has just launched in the United States, along with iOS 8.1, un new payment method announced last September: Apple Pay. This option will allow us to process fast and secure payments in establishments with just one touch of our iPhones 6 and iPhones 6 Plus (thanks to the new NFC chip that these models integrate). For now, Apple Pay will only be available in the United States.

Other highlights of iOS 8.1 is the return of the Photo roll (option that disappeared in iOS 8 and that has been highly demanded by users) and the possibility of sharing the internet (hotspot) quickly with other devices (activation depends on the contract we have with our telephone operator).

We invite you to reflect your iOS 8.1 experience in the comments of this article.

      WTF?

  3.   Joel said

I am not updating via OTA; by iTunes, I get an error ("Could not contact the server ...".

    1.    Paul Ortega (@Paul_Lenk) said

I think the servers are saturated. Try again in a few minutes

  4.   Luis said

By iTunes at the moment there is no way ...

    1.    Luis said

It seems that I have already achieved it, so if what I want is to do a complete "restoration"…. at the moment according to iTunes there are 21 hours left to finish the download…. we'll see

      1.    Joel said

        Well, not even like that.

  5.   Alex said

Updated via OTA, the first time I update via OTA, I always did it via Itunes….

I still have the same problem as in 8.0.2, the compass asks me to calibrate every time I open it.

  9.   Miguel said

I hope it solves the problem that I cannot activate iMessage with my phone number. It only activates with my email. With 8.0.2 I tried everything and nothing.
    I'll update and we'll see.
    Greetings.

    1.    flyman23 said

Well, the same thing happens to me, I have to calibrate it every time I open it, I'll go through the apple to see what it is.

  10.   Joel said

    Downloading with iTunes now works.

    1.    Lucas said

I had a similar problem with the compass that did not calibrate me when I opened it and always asked for it. It turned out that I had disabled in SETTINGS / PRIVACY / LOCATION / SYSTEM SERVICES / COMPASS CALIBRATION
Activating this option ended my problems with the compass. I hope that it is solved. All the best

      1.    Raúl Aviles said

Thanks Lucas. It happened to me and I had no idea!

      2.    Guido said

Good evening Lucas, after making the adjustments in settings, did I stop asking you to calibrate the compass every time you open it? Greetings.

To someone the option of 2g appears to me with movistar nothing at all

  12.   Borja said

For me with Yoigo I also did not have the option of 2g, 3g and 4g.

  13.   Norberto said

Anyone know if the Bluetooth connectivity problem in the car was fixed?

    1.    German said

In the Beta it was fixed, it should !!!

  14.   Osman said

    I hope to improve 8.1 on my iphone 4s ... if I don't switch to galaxy s5 🙂

  15.   aarancon said

The option 2g, 3g 4g only comes out in the omvs as they say out there, in the big ones like Movistar, Vodafone Orange and Yoigo nothing. They are also starting to say that the Wifi issue remains unsettled. Apple dear, you are covering yourself in glory. Yes, the reel seems to have returned. How happy I am in my iOS 7 companions, how happy, especially when when unlocking the mobile you find the wonderful icons of iOS 6 and it is not a Winterboard theme, they are changed by hair rebuilding them from the original iOS 6 (I say rebuilding them because the icons in iOS 7 are bigger and I had to adapt them to the new size),

  16.   JGU said

Are you using instant hotspot? I with vodafone is on an iPhone 6 and a Mac, nothing hotspot appears on the Mac ...

  17.   Alfonso said

You will tell me the issue of the battery as it goes, I have the impression that my iPhone 6 is drinking it,
Anyway I'll wait to see how it evolves

  18.   Alejandro said

aarancon: explain to me how it is to have iOS 7 with the icons of iOS 6! I have not updated either.

  19.   Caesar Salad said

The return of the reel is fine, but it is the least bad, for when to be able to store the photos without the need for all of them to be stored on a reel mixed and in duplicate if you want them in another separate folder ... a greeting

  20.   Nando said

Now when you delete the reel photos, they are also deleted from streaming photos, in ios 7 that did not happen, what a failure !!!

  21.   Alejandro said

I see that Apple continues to fail with the update ... I am not going to move from iOS 7 due to insignificant improvements. Luck!

  22.   worth said

I have an iPhone 6 plus, before with 8.0.2 the battery is wonderful, now with 8.1 the battery runs out right away, well Apple every day you surprise me worse.

  23.   Juan said

Excellent!! The wifi is luxurious. At the moment I have not seen battery performance.

  24.   Other said

    Don't update yet.

It consumes a lot of battery and also has a serious problem of heating the device, I hope they solve it quickly.

    1.    Alfonso said

Totally agree. Getting better and better with these from apple

  25.   Miguel said

I've been with 24 for 8.1 hours and it goes from bad to worse, in addition to not solving the problem of screen rotation in the background, the battery drains like never before, as a test I left it in airplane mode last night and after 7 hours it consumed 25%, I think this past Apple is doing things from bad to worse.

  26.   Diego said

A shame I updated yesterday and the battery has lost its consistency. I have been using it for about 50 minutes from 100% load and it has already sucked 20%. Before it was not like that, fix it now!

  27.   Esteban said

tired of my phone 5 s, since the entry of iOS 8 from bad to worse my mobile heats up that you can make an egg on top of it and the battery does not last at all, disappointed

  28.   May said

The 8.1 is just as bad as the 8.0 what a disaster… .especially safari does so much nonsense that it leaves apple on the ground, go birria!
