Actually in iOS 7.1 and higher, What happens with this photograph that identifies the contacts from whom we receive calls is precisely very small. It is in fact reduced to a small piece of the screen in which we can barely see that person. However, this was not the case before, and Apple had already tested the full screen for its contacts, implying that in reality that function could be useful to transmit closeness to those people who are far away.
Although the anecdote did not have much explanation when iOS 7.1 appeared that left no trace of viewing the call contacts in full screen, it seems that Apple, even without explaining it publicly, returns to what it thinks already worked, and that in the version prior to iOS 8 it should not have changed.
A great little return ... interesting given that Apple boasts so much of giving importance to details and this is precisely what it is. Do we know if in iOS 8 the photos with which we personalize the wallpaper will continue to be automatically resized? It is another one of those details in which iOS 7 failed… There is no way for the personalized photo to maintain its resolution (neither by deactivating parallax, nor by taking a screenshot, nor by adjusting the resolution of the photo).

I did several tests and for it to work, I think the Cupertino people put a condition on us so that we can see the large photos. They have to be in the profile of the person in high resolution. Ex: if you use Facebook to update the photos of your contacts ... it will not work.
