iOS 9.3 beta 2 allows you to update the firmware of the iPad Pro accessories

This week, Apple has released the second betas of iOS 9.3, both public and developer. The most common thing is that the news that the betas include from the second on are performance improvements and bug fixes, but there are also times when we find a function that was not available in the first version. This is something that happened in the second beta of tvOS, a version that adds support for Live Photos and iCloud Photo Library, or the second beta of iOS 9.3 for iPad Pro, which is what this post is about.

The second beta of iOS 9.3 adds a new feature that allows you to use the Smart Connector (smart connector) on iPad Pro for update firmware of its accessories. This is something German developer Stefan Wolfrum discovered when he connected his Logitech Create keyboard to the iPad Pro. In the case of the Logitech accessory, the update fixed two problems, one related to lag or lag between the keystrokes and the appearance of these on the screen and another that made the keystrokes not detected by the iPad.

When an iPad Pro accessory is connected to Smart Connector and there is an update of firmware pending, the iPad will display a pop-up window, which we can accept or postpone, notifying of said update. If we decide to update, the pop-up window remains on the screen showing the status of the process (such as "Preparing" or showing the percentage). When the process finishes, the window disappears. We may miss that the window notifies us when the process has finished or adds a link to the list of changes, but it is also true that it is the first beta that includes this function. It may provide more information in future versions.

With features like this, and although Apple really likes to use the word Smart (which sometimes means smart), we can understand why they have called this connector Smart Connector. Not having to find out by other means that an upgrade for an accessory is available is very convenient. We just have to connect it, accept it and, in a few seconds, we can eliminate the problems that prevented us from working in peace. That's pretty cool, right?
